No this is just because Seth wanted to force his Trixie waifu shit on everyone and then advertised anyone who made her look decent |
| TenchiFreak5 #940733 5 months ago |
I've always found it interesting that even the Bitch Twins don't seem to be hated as much as Douche, but simply liking one antagonist more than another one isn't necessarily a double standard depending on why you do it. |

Trixie is best. I don't really care for her occasional woobie-fication though. Being an arrogant showpony is fine, that's her job. |
| Saufsoldat #940755 5 months ago |
The Flim-Flam brothers hardly got any crap even though they were complete assholes.
Trixie may have been kind of a bitch, but she lost her home at the end of the episode. I think that more than makes up for any bad Karma she gained during the episode. Blueblood was a mayor douchebag and all he got was some cake on his coat, big deal. He's still an asshole. |
| Fuzzy_Logic #940757 5 months ago |
the blueblood tumblr redeemed blueblood for a lot of people, kinda. He was played off as kind of just a dumb guy with an ego, it was really cute.
I love blueblood. |
| Anonymous #940767 5 months ago |
I guess it is because Trixie is easier to make likable. She has more redeeming qualities too and is somewhat more complex character than Blueblood.
Blueblood is more a school book example of Prince Charmless trope. All we know about him is that he is a spoiled royal brat. Not to mention that Trixie is cute despite and because of all her arrogance. And fans like that... XD |

I like Trixie and I like Blueblood. You don't know their whole story, so its hard to put a judgment on them.
I mean, look at Pokemon Red/Blue. We all thought the rival was a douche and a jerk but when you look more closely at it, the asshole is Red. "During the course of the game, you steal your rival's Innocence, crush his dreams, and ultimately snatch away the love of his own Grandfather. Oh, and by the way, your Rival doesn't have any Parents. He's an orphan." http://www.animeonline.net/f5/if-you-beat-pokemon-red-blue-you-were-jerk-51739/ |

Trixie sure as fuck doesn't get off scott free; a lot of people like her and she has "pro" art and fics. For every fic where she's put in a good light, there are two where she's either evil and bent on revenge, or killed outright for shits and giggles.
As for Blueblood, unfortunately for him there wasn't a single scene where he wasn't a douche, so there's little to make likable. And it's not misandry; Gilda gets loads more hate than Blueblood. As for the Flim Flams, it'll be interesting to see how their reception is over time. They put on a good show and are excellent sweet talkers, but their end game was to con and run the Apples out of business from the very start. |
| Anonymous #940838 5 months ago |
@940767 While I agree about Blueblood, Trixie really doesn't come across in canon as all that complex. She's an egotist who loves the spotlight but can't stand dealing with ponies on a personal basis. The complexity of the character is fanon.
I think what draws bronies to her is her level of creativity. She only seems to have a select few spells in her arsenal, yet she found a way to use them to show up everypony that tried to knock her out of the spotlight. This makes her a superior character to Blueblood, who relies entirely on his pedigree. |
| Roboshi #940840 5 months ago |
I'd like it if more people explored the Gilda personality, she is one of Dash's oldest friends and many think she's just a bitch? That comic about her past is one of the few good things to explore her personality. |

I would like to see Gilda, Trixie and Blueblood come back in the series (no I do not consider Blueblood's quick scenes in Sweet and Elite a "return") and possibly redeem themselves.
....Unless keeping them protagonists is more fun.... |
| Ril #940915 5 months ago |
"But can you find us a scene where Trixie isn't being a boastful egotist who doesnt really know what she's doing?"
Hardly; the points in her favour are that she /did/ try to stop the ursa, did admit to lying (and why) while (for a short time, at least) seemingly feeling bad about it, and she did have her wagon (which most assume is her home and livelyhood) destroyed. Yeah, she's still a jerk and has an ego the size of the moon. Blueblood just didn't do anything good or show the faintest glint of not being a douche 24/7. Add to that that Trixie did do something special, show-wise, in that she does more magic than simple levitation, while Blueblood doesn't have anything else going for him. Other than good looks and money, I guess. |

Trixie and the Flim Flams had the same charm, Trxie you at least feel sorry for her because she's homeless at the end of the episode Gilda doesn't but she does seem to care about Dash Blueblood was just an asshole but canon verson is closer to his tumblr rather than most fics |
| Sonlir #940991 5 months ago |
Actually Flim and Flam were kinda decent... in a capitalist type of way.
They could make cider of similar quality and triple the quantity in the same timeframe. They also had apple related Cutie Marks so they probably knew what they were doing and built a somewhat complicated cider making machine instead of faking it. Sure they DID offer a bad deal at the beginning but i'm quite sure they would let the Apples negotiate and get a better profit since they had the ONLY apple orchard nearby. The only reason they lost was because they let AJ's friends help and then panicked and turned off quality controll on their machine. |
| Anonymous #941027 5 months ago |
Exactly what d715. Discord has the biggest fanbase of any villain by far, and he's male. The "misandry" charge is ridiculous.
Besides, you can't compare Trixie and Blueblood's situations. Trixie has her freaking home destroyed in her episode. And while she shouldn't have boasted, she wasn't responsible for bringing the Ursa into town. She was a jerk, but her punishment was far too harsh. Blueblood, on the other hand, got a little messy and embarrassed, but he's still a damn PRINCE, he's still rich and powerful, and he suffered no lasting consequences for his actions. He'll probably go on to treat many more mares like dirt. It's not the same thing. |
| Anonymous #941029 5 months ago |
Trixie is awesome for reasons everyone has already gone through in this comments section.
I like Blueblood too though. I feel bad for anyone who hates him, because that means they missed out on some of the funniest scenes in the whole show - Blueblood being a jerk. The only character I can understand people hating is Gilda, but I still like her kinda. |
| Anonymous #941045 5 months ago |
I don't think it's to do with complexity. Rather, it's quite simple:
Trixie's main character trait is that she's boastful, obsessed with greatness, and loves showing up others. That's not explicitly bad though - in real life, most people wouldn't want to be best friends with that type of person, but few people would actually want to run them out of town. The end result is an interesting but lonely character - a Woobie, of sorts. Hence why there's so many Sad Trixie pics (with the Powerful Trixie pics coming from people who actually like her kind of character). Blueblood, however, is nothing but self-centered and expecting to be pampered. That's a trait that everyone genuinely hates. And since that's literally his entire known character, it means there's no reason to like him. At least, not without a fan interpretation adding to his character, like that blog mentioned earlier. There's still a /bit/ of a double standard, in that Trixie wouldn't be as widely popular as a Colt, but that's just because of the whole masculine/feminine gender split, and not any sort of misandry or misoginy. |
| AcuteAngle #941066 5 months ago |
I think d715 has it about right: The percentage of the fandom willing to forgive an antagonist is pretty much directly proportional to how entertaining they were in their appearance. Discord and Trixie were both very entertaining, Nightmare Moon and the Flimflam brothers slightly less so, Gilda not really, and Blueblood not at all. (Gilda does get as much hate as Blueblood, if not more, solely because she committed one of the two unforgivable sins of bronydom: she made Fluttershy cry.) |
| Anonymous #941112 5 months ago |
@066
Blueblood was really entertaining though. Really, I think people's willingness to forgive an antagonist depends on what they actually did. Nobody forgives Gilda because she made Fluttershy cry (it bothers me that people think she's evil ENTIRELY because of that one scene, but whatever). I bet if the Fluttershy crying scene was removed, Gilda would get massive amounts of sympathetic fanon and legions of fans. People forgive Discord, I think, because he's a stereotypical villain - he's entertaining, slightly insane and poses a real threat to the heroes. Also it helps that he's literally the exact same person as Q from Star Trek. People forgive Trixie because she didn't even do anything wrong, but got probably the worst punishment (second to Discord's). She shows up and puts on a free stage show, gets heckled before she can even begin, shows up the hecklers and gets demonized for it and then gets her house crushed by the Ursa Minor. Also, when the Ursa Minor arrives she seems to accept some responsibility for it and apologizes for saying she could defeat it, even though it really wasn't her fault it showed up. I'm probably rambling on so I'll summarise by saying that Trixie has lots of fans and lots of sympathy because she was barely even an antagonist, Gilda gets almost no sympathy because she committed (in most people's eyes, anyway) an unforgivable crime. |
| Psychopomf #941136 5 months ago |
Guys guys guys
Its because Blueblood is rich and has a tiny fraction of divine blood. THAT'S why he gets no sympathy. Though even if I don't like him, I like to imagine his personality that of a Rich Zap Brannigan |
| Psychopomf #941290 5 months ago |
Oh. Also I forgive Gilda. But that's probably just because I have a friend who can seem like an asshole but really just doesn't know how to express himself.
Though if she had a redemption episode, even if it was alongside Trixie and etc., I'd enjoy it. Forgiving people is a part of friendship right? |

| Anonymous #941619 5 months ago |
Flim and Flam are redeemed by their upbeat musical number and psychotic 1890's styling (the pinnacle of which is seen in Flam's glorious Rarity-seducing mustache). Discord is redeemed by being the FiM equivalent of the Joker, only with a slightly-less-lethal sense of humor. Nightmare Moon is redeemed on-screen by the power of friendship. The jerks in Cloudsdale were redeemed by being properly humbled at their inevitable humiliation by Rainbow Dash.
Gilda, Trixie, and Blueblood have no sympathetic or redeeming qualities except those manufactured by the fandom. Trixie is loved, Gilda is not, and Blueblood is despised. Double standard: confirmed. |

| RealityCheck #941643 5 months ago |
People disproportionately hate Blueblood because he's obviously SPOILED. He's rich, he's royalty, he's a snob and a wuss. He also utterly destroyed a filly's romantic dreams just by being himself, which is insta-hate for anyone with a touch of romance in their soul. The worst he suffered was a bit of cake to the face.... after which he probably went home to his million-bit mansion and felt sorry for himself.
Trixie was rude, brash, arrogant, a braggart and liar, and made her place by embarrassing other ponies. But everyone watching knew that a lot of that was just showbiz flamboyance. Plus, it wasn't her fault the Ursa Minor appeared, she DID step up to the plate when it showed up, even if she failed to defeat it... and when everything was over she lost EVERYTHING-- her possessions, her HOME for crying out loud, even her hat and robe... and nobody even tried to make compensation to her and dismissed her with "well I hope she learned her lesson." |

BlueBlood mistreated a woman, that kind of makes him instantly unlikable.
Trixie is a liar and a showoff, that's not quite as bad, but still no reason to paint her as just needing a little love. She would take your love and use it to further her douchery, stop pretending that's not who she is. You listening, Twixie fanfic writers? |
| SpacePaladin #942544 5 months ago |
I'm part of the fandom that likes to believe Blueblood is more a troll than anything, whose behaviour largely stems from how sick he is of being treated like a prize to be won. He broke Rarity's heart yes, but the entirety of their relationship would have been Rarity showing up and expecting him to do everything. We're meant to sympathize with Rarity because we've gotten to know her, but Blueblood ultimately hasn't, so nothing really separates her from what may very well be countless other mares. |
| DoctorDreidal #942769 5 months ago |
Eh, my opinion of Blueblood softened somewhat after seeing him in "Sweet & Elite". It's my headcannon now that he learned how not to be a complete dick weasel between then and now, and kind of redeemed himself in Rarity's eyes; even though they aren't a couple, they are friends now, at least. |
| Krek #943108 5 months ago |
For the record, I do not have a bias on any of the villains whether they deserve to gain sympathy or our scorn, but how do we know if said villains really deserve what they get?
For all we know, Trixie grew-up as a jerk since her birth and showed hardly any redeeming qualities, while Blueblood could possibility have been a product of his upbringing; he could have wanted a normal life, but was denied it and became the Princess Charmless he is now. Background info is needed and thus far, we haven't gotten much. |

@Fronzel, Wow, just wow. You are a bigger douchebag than all the antagonists in the show combined. "Your writing is worthless" isn't a criticism, it's a straght uncalled for insult. - If Seth has written any fanfiction, and frankly I'm not sure he has, it is basically irrelevant. He's known for his work creating and maintaining EQD, likely the most widely visited MLPFIM site online. The "Trixie bias" originally brought up there is, by and large, just a running gag. However, given that your exposure to the fandom is basically torrents and this one site, are you really qualified to express any sort of knowledgeable criticism? You seem to have made some rather broad assumptions re: Seth and fanfiction, where you aren't particularly well informed. |

I just don't understand why people dislike Gilda or Blueblood or Trixie because of the bad things they did. That is what makes me LIKE them. Trixie was hilariously full of herself, Blueblood was hilariously clueless and Gilda was hilariously trying hard to be cool. They're all bad people and that is why I like them as characters. If they ever show up in the show again as more than cameos I want them to keep being their horrible selves because that is eintetaining.

Okey since this bullshit shitstorm seems to endure, I'll throw my >opinion.
Trixie did nothing wrong. She was just a stage magician acting the role, and maybe taking it a bit too far (FFS, Yuri Gueller is trying to convince everyone he's a true master of the arcane - like real arcane!). She did not intend or expect that two stupid fanboys would go as far as unleashing a ponivorous beast into Ponyville for her to prove her power. Blueblood is a genuine spoiled douche and literally a royal pain in the ass. He has no redeeming values (like being a cute filly like Diamond Tiara for example). |
| Anonymous #954080 5 months ago |
Trixie did nothing wrong? She humiliated people for the sake of looking good. She bragged, boasted and went out of her way to humiliate others. She didn't even beat the Mane Six in their challenges, she just fucked them up with magic and said LOLOLOL I WON.
Blueblood sucked at being a good date, Trixie sucked at being a good human being (or pony). Just admit you hate a character because he is not a girl you can waifu over and be done with it. |

Trixie didn't go "out of her way" to humiliate anyone. She challenged her most vocal heckler to keep her show going. Then two more stepped forward to challenge her completely of their own volition. That humiliation is what they get for interrupting the performance. The only thing about the situation that signals to me I should feel even remotely upset about this is that they were the main characters. |
| Anonymous #958509 5 months ago |
Rainbow and Applejack did their thing without even touching Trixie. Trixie attacks them with magic and goes HAHA LOOK THEY SUCK. That is going out of her way to humiliate. She didn't outshine, she flat out harmed. |

"She challenged her most vocal heckler" That would be Rainbow Dash. Except she challenged Applejack first, so you're wrong. Go and rewatch. And that's why Trixie is so well-liked: Because people have shi**y memory and like to forget how the episode went down. |
