WHERE?
AT WHAT POINT ON THE SHOW DOES IT IN ANY WAY INDICATE THAT SHE IS IN ANY WAY DISABLED? ARE WE WATCHING THE SAME CARTOON? |
| Dumb_Rock #936703 5 months ago |
^I think he's refering to the fandumb rather than the show |

As somepony who has an ounce of common sense, I find it slightly ridiculous that Derpy is considered mentally handicapped just because she's clumsy.
So screw you, lazy-eyed retard who wrote this and insulted Derpy. |

Screw that, here's a Modron.

You idiots just can't go one hour without fighting, can you? |
| Anonymous #936731 5 months ago |
I've seen a lot of fanfics and fanart where she's mentally handicapped to some degree. |

You people know what "derp" means, right? |
| zralf #936805 5 months ago |
dear OP: anything that is physically, and instantly noticable, has and always will be viewed as different and/or worse, that is the reality of the human species, learn to live with it, nobody will be doing you any favours. |

"Derp" is slang that roughly translates to "mistake" in the context of clumsiness or lapse in concentration. As in "I derped", meaning "I made a mistake".
Another example: "Ponibooru's servers derped really bad." translation: "Ponibooru's servers have gone wrong big time" One who is "derpy" or has a "habit of derping" is one who often involved in accidents or general mishaps, as well as being clumsy by nature. As a name, "Derpy" means "good-intentioned clutz", and directly derives from the slang usage of "derp". |

She has a positive attitude about it and is generally considered to be no less successful or likable than any other pony. In fact, she's probably the most universally-loved character in the fandom. People who embrace their own quirks--internal or external--are usually met with open arms and minds. People who are overly sensitive only make others hesitate to approach them or anybody like them. |

Anon trolling with a confession? Very, very, very likely. |

Read the Bright Eyes fanfic. |
| Anonymous #938434 5 months ago |
I also have a lazy eye and Derpy doesn't offend me at all. In fact, I now refer to my eye as derped. |
| Anonymous #939575 5 months ago |
@OP
My younger sibling is mentally handicapped--period! And yet, I find nothing offensive about Derpy. Seriously, it's not a shot toward handicapped people of any sort. Just calm down and enjoy the show. |

I has a question though. Do lazy eyed people have significantly impaired vision? Because impaired depth perception could very fittingly explain clumsyness. |
