Same black t-shirt and they didn't even change Karkat's teeth even though Dan is human. While I love Dan, I kind of wish they didn't take their parody of Karkat that ridiculously far, but they did it anyway. Paranoia and common sense aren't the same thing. The black t-shirt was to make the character familiar. The sharp, rounded teeth along with the black t-shirt was to make the familiarity COMPLETELY OBVIOUS to anyone with common sense. I'm not saying that the character that hates everything is anything new. How could you even suggest that? What I'm saying is that Dan WAS based directly on Karkat. Not any other angry at everything guys, just Dan. And this is not any sort of ripping off the little man kind of thing. In the eyes of the producers it was absolute rational decision. In mid 2010, Hivebent was introduced with the introduction of Karkat. Over the next 1 or 2 months, the fandom exploded in size with the intro to all these new characters, and Karkat became the most well known one. The people at the Hub are more observant of internet trends then some other stations. Tons of people loved the short, insecure, black-shirted, sharp teethed, nice guy deep down guy that could only rage whenever he opened his mouth. So 5-6 months later, in Jan 2011, Dan vs. appears with their own short, insecure, black-shirted, sharp teethed, nice guy deep down guy who practically rages every time he opens his mouth. |

They have never mentioned Karkat at any point. His teeth are to emphasise his impishness. And a black shirt is a fucking black shirt. How the FUCK do you run with "He wears a black shirt" as part of your evidence!? A short angry guy is not new. Jerk With A Heart Of Gold is an entire fucking TROPE. Yes, the characters are similar, but saying that means that Dan is definitely based on Karkat is absolutely retarded. There. A proper rebuttal. I'm pretty sure you never gave any proof. Unless you have shown me evidence of the creators outright stating "Dan is based on Karkat." nothing you've said is proof, merely speculation.
I've stated that the creators said he's kind of a grown up Calvin of sorts, which is a hell of a lot more official statement than anything you've come up with. |

@CronoM: Homestuck is really overrated. Not bad per se, but really, REALLY overrated. And annoying. Not to mention that Homestuck fans make up one of the five most annoying fandoms on the internet (Homestuck, Mass Effect, FIM Bronies, scans_daily, & DC fanboys/girls in general) IMHO, that really get under my skin with the more focal fans' rantings (and I'll admit to being in three of those, so believe me I hear this crap a lot).
But seriously, the belief that a character in a cartoon show MUST be a ripoff of a character in an internet series (and freaking Homestuck no less) based on any similarities, no matter how much straw-grasping is freaking crazy. This isn't like a Superman/Captian Marvel thing, it's just... You have to realize that fandoms on the internet RARELY translate out to much, if anything, in real life. Not to mention that you really are a wanker: your "evidence" that Dan is based on Karkat would get laughed out of a grade school, you try to play the 'mature-Oh-I'm-Tired-Of-Dealing-With-Internet-Egotists' crap when everything you say is the same damn stuff, and before post #975388, you said NOTHING about any possibility that you might be wrong with your "You might be right, but that is HIGHLY unlikely" crap just being selfserving drek.
