ACTA has already been signed in some countries and nothings changed except for not being allowed to view some videos on youtube.
Get over it, nothing is going to happen. |
| Zancrow #918524 5 months ago |
Ok, what does ACTA make now? |
| PynkyPy #918525 5 months ago |
ACTA is a bill that restricts EVERYTHING that moves in trade and information in the form of copyrighted materials, trademarks, and patents. |
| StalkerZHS #918529 5 months ago |
WHY ARE THE EFFORTS TO KILL SOPA PIPA AND ACTA NOT WORKING?? |
| PynkyPy #918539 5 months ago |

Before everypony freaks out, I recommend reading this.

^ Finally a bit of sense. I was going to post that myself in a meta file, but you beat me to it.
The reports makes plenty of sense and let's face it. What we should really be worried is how each individual country ends up further tacking on provisions to their own individual charter. In short, expect Con-Gress to try and tack on SOPA/PIPA using the shield of ACTA as their excuse. In short, keep an eye on your governments and make sure they don't pull any monkey business. |

"Keep an eye on your government"
a phrase for the ages |

"In short, keep an eye on your governments and make sure they don't pull any monkey business."
Considering that our Congress likes to sneak unrelated crap into spending bills all the time, that might be a bit of a challenge. |
| dudemang #918717 5 months ago |
Okay, so, it's still ultimately a nation-by-nation issue, and fairly harmless in and of itself.
We just need to remain sharp, honestly. This isn't the death knell. |

Thank you so much. |

bye europe, nice knowing ya'll |
| Nebbie #919743 5 months ago |
@dudemang
No this isn't the death knell, this is just the beginning. Even if ACTA is not widely enforced, it will linger as a dark shadow constantly pushing politicians to try to make laws for it. It could be a long time before ACTA is repealed, perhaps not even in the next 40 years. Once enuff people know about it, however, they probably will make their individual countries reject it. But what will the EU do when a nation rejects a trade agreement?... We might see major European countries withdraw from the EU sometime soon. |

ACTA was signed into law in POLAND. Since when does Polish bronies equate to European bronies? |
| NK_6060 #920200 5 months ago |
^ because Poland is IN EUROPE? |
| Valsion #920995 5 months ago |
GODDAMIT GUYS! JUST BECAUSE IT WAS SIGNED DOESN'T MEAN IT'S ALREADY IN THERE! IT MUST BE RATIFIED FIRST!!!
WHAT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND?!?! |
| dudemang #921047 5 months ago |
Valsion said: Does it? Hmm. European government must have some substantial nuances to it. Thanks for being so understanding about it. Obviously everyone knows or should know how this all works. Nebbie said: It depends on how it's enforced. The Reddit post made the argument, to me, that ACTA doesn't do anything of particular merit on its own (nothing that isn't in law already in the U.S.). It doesn't have domestic sway, and can't take away what a country perceives as individual rights. Now, I can agree that people will use it to re-incarnate SOPA/PIPA, that much is obvious. But it doesn't give the government magical license to strip us of our rights. They still can't infringe on free speech or whatnot. We can still fight for it. |
| Nebbie #922534 5 months ago |
^ACTA not doing anything on its own is the scariest part, because then countries can push thru the real draconian stuff under the banner of having to support ACTA since they signed it.
What was needed was a lot of specific protections to prevent abuse as its own agreement, then later agreements to determine what to do about copyright within the bounds set earlier. |
