Does anyone else find it funny that the most coherent, and arguably the best response so far, is by someone who doesn't even like the show, and actually dislikes the fandom?

@Fenrir
Well, every other commentary I've read by now is : "Derpy is offensive because I think so and I'm right and you're not hurrdurr".
So, yeah, not very surprising : P

@FuzzyFenrir

No.

People who are intelligent will be intelligent regardless of their interests. The "average" person outnumbers those guys 100 to 1, though, so very rarely do intelligent people have any significance in society.

If Derpy's existence is a moral issue, then I think the negatively-portrayed nerds/geniuses on TV should be seen in the same light.

Fenrir, at this point I would appreciate coherent responses even if they came from from Fascist African-Catholic Supremacists.

How someone who shouldn't be involved in the depate has a sound point?

That is to say, I agree with the OP. There should be nothing offensive about Derpy, I was just implying that he is an intelligent man who makes a sound argument, and would do so regardless of his views on the show and its fandom.

Well, the show crew will listen to whichever voice they hear the most, since it still IS feedback, even if it's retarded, and since the majority doesn't really bother sending calm and polite messages every 5 seconds unlike the minority, they will go along with those. They can't base choices on something that doesn't exist.That's how it works, right? If they wouldn't react, Fox News or someone could blow it out of proportion, even if the chances of it happening are out of proportion

Of course! I know I didn't clarify well, but I agree with all of that. But as I said, the smart people are likely outnumbered 100 to 1. Check this guy's tumblr, he's getting death threats left and right for this post. The human form is incredibly flawed.

I dunno. The Hub's site should have some links, I think, and there's probably some info on the dA pages of some of the people involved, but I doubt it would help much by now, since I think I remember reading how Hasbro had to "apologise".

Looks like they're still trying to brutalize humanity's right to have thoughts and feelings outside their misnamed "sense of humor". Odd how they're so mind-bogglingly offended by the very notion that things might be offensive. And how they try to label themselves "intelligent" when their entire strategy is to act superior without making any points.

It's almost as if they weren't really opposed to the notion of negative emotions so much as they want to keep it to themselves so they can do whatever they want and lash out at others for not being what they want.

The argument isn't really about whether Derpy is offensive (I think she went a bit too far, but I can see why people might disagree). It's just that even mentioning the concept of being offended will bring out the old argument of whether it's a thoughtcrime to have negative emotions. Since literally everyone who answers "yes" is a hypocrite who is offended when people say "no", you'd think the argument would be decisively solved, but it rages on because people love the notion of disregarding the feelings of others.

As I awakened from my restless slumber what did mine eyes perceive but the visage of the wall eyed angel upon my television! And yea doth her prismatically colored brethren refer to her by the name given unto her by those whom her very continued existence is to be credited, "Derpy".

As this profound realization shook my very being I did laugh and smile as one of whom has heard the best of news from a dear friend. Though soon didst I delve into the very catacombs of the internet from which my beloved obsession did spring, only to find, in shock and dismay, that among the joy and cheer provoked by the Angel's sudden appearance was mixed the foul bitterness of anger and sadness and I too felt a bitterness within my heart.

Old timey enough?

^ It's a borderline thing. Her voice was too stereotypically "dumb", and they exaggerated her clumsiness too much. Possibly too small to actually label "offensive", but it could have been done better.

But that's just people reading too much into it.
Isn't it kinda offensive, too, to assume she's dumb just because of her actions and voice?
I wreck shit, too, by accident. I'm just clumsy like that.
Should I be offended now that they relate this clumsiness to being disabled?

^ The same would apply if she drooled. She was portrayed as a caricature; not much of one, but enough to be a bit irksome.

A slurred voice and inherent clumsiness a retard does not make.

Shame on you, naysayers. Both for being so shallow, and for being so easily swayed by stereotypes. The fandom portrayed her this way, and the writers did as well. There shouldn't be anything more to say. If anything, you have yourselves to blame.

You know what I honestly don't get out of all this? The fandom usually portrays her as stupid, so when she does do something stupid, nearly everyone hates her. If this fandom wasn't a pony version of the Sonic fandom, it's getting there.

Let me correct you there Primedawg the majority loved her appearance. While it's been the Minority primarily that I've seen on Tumblr that has been against the scene.

Basically you're overstating the scale of the people against her in the show

Look. As much as I love the show and fandom I didn't felt happiness when I saw Derpy scenes. I didn't feel offended I was just sad. Let me please explain:

Now some of us probably felt somewhere deep inside that she is just a normal pony with a little wicked stare and clumsy hooves (and who can blame her) which would completely fit in the way she was created and presented in S1.
I understand that the animators tried to show us that they care but making her sound and act like she did... boxed her, framed her like a stereotypical dumbass aded to the show for the lulz, thus killing her potential future character development. I'm not saying it portraits mental people bad, that wasn't the intention. Another message that they have send though this was: The show is exactly how it looks.

If you're going to argue "for Gods sake its a kids show" I want to remind you something. This used to be more than just a kid show. Thats why we started watching it in the first place right? Because of the ability to entertain with childish yet sophisticated humor. Now its disappearing from the show and so is the subtlety of the jokes it self. Thats what I used to love in this thing, the glimpses of sarcasm, famous people appearing as background ponies, even potential mature references. it was all balanced, pure, the characters were behaving naturally, logically, there were no forced jokes. That was the beauty of it.
As I watched the season 2 episodes I began to realize more and more: They make me laugh but they dont make me smile anymore... the magic is gone, something is missing. Its the purity of the show if you understand what I mean. The characters are beginning to fall into stereotypical cartoon behavior, the plot (not that plot!) is weaker, there are more holes in it... The show is loosing overall quality.

Now to all of you badasses try not to react arogant, I wrote this as my opinion not a rant.

@#916083: The show isn't 'loosing' overall quality, your expectations of it are rising. That gives the impression the show loses quality.

@Mike-RaWare

Sometimes I feel like the show is declining in quality, and I wonder whether it actually is or if I'm just expecting more of it than I used to. Even when I look at it that way, it's still hard to tell which is the case.

@#916083 i know this is probably overdone, but have any of you even watch western animation! my god man do you know how many dumbasses there are. also there was NOTHING in that scene to suggest she was. and she has a deep voice, big fucking whoop. i know lots of people with deep voices and they are quite intelligent. derped is not even a real word.

finally this is coming from a guy who is disable. so leave derpy alone please

Anyways Does anyone know any way how to contact the animators? or someone whose in charge? Although I do not like entirely how Derpy has turned out I've got a bad feeling about this argument. I'd like to tell them not to change and def not edit out the potential future derpy sceenes. From what I see... this discussion will only end up in a shitstorm with casualties on both fandom camps.

I approve of this image. If anything assuming that a moderately dopey voice or clumsiness is indicative of mental deficiency is unfair to people with unusual voices or inner ear problems. Absolutely nothing in the scene implies that Derpy is anything other than a fully functional pony who's just a bit of a klutz.
