It's waaaaaaaay below Pixar standards. It was just a quick cash that Jhon Lasseter still defends to this very day.

I didn't think it was that bad, really. Anything that came right after Wall-E, Up and Toy Story 3 would've been underwhelming in comparison. :/

I didn't hate Cars 2; from a technical stand point, it looked amazing. And as a car fan, I was really looking forward to it. But it really poor in places. The chases were kinda cool, and it had an unusual dark edge to it which I didn't dislike, but the writing was sub par. At least the voice acting was top notch, but you really expect that these days.

Rango was an odd film. The story was a real shoddy structure on its own. The townsfolk weren't all that interesting either. But Rattlesnake Jake was brilliant. And the character designs were superb. It makes for an unusual film, as you could enjoy the aesthetics, but completely ignore the plot as a result (not the worst thing that could befall it).

All told, it's not been a vintage year for animated films.

As a certain critic said (I can't find it right now), it wasn't so much that Cars 2 was bad. It was average and Pixar doesn't do average.

Usually you can go see their films without watching trailers because you trust them. This hit hard because it was their first disappointment (YMMV on the first Cars film).

I always saw Cars 2 as a huge merchandising ad, even before the movie came out.

The first movie was pretty nice; slow paced but meaningful. The problem is the toys and games lack excitement.

With the introduction of weapons and spy gadgets I'd say the Cars 2 game was pretty fun to play. The toys shoot projectiles and stuff now too.

Here's to hoping Pixar wows us again with what they have in store.

I'm actually really surprised "Tintin" didn't make the list.

This is the first year since the animated feature category was created that there hasn't been a Pixar movie nominated.
