I knew giving Derpy a speaking role would cause an insane shitstorm, but sheesh. It's just a cartoon.
It's still just a vocal minority that are whining about the change. The overwhelming majority of the fandom LOVES that Derpy got a speaking role, if the posts on Equestria Daily and Youtube videos are anything to go by. If anything, the creators only need to apologize for being awesome. Oh wait, they don't, because there's no need for that. |

The people that work on the show did surely prepare themselves when they added her in. It's not like they just blindly add in fandom created characters without checking if there might be any problems.
For the episode "over a barrel" they also had one of those guys that examine if it causes any ethical problems. |

Pony_News, they have an option where you can go select The Hub, and then MLP:FIM, and then have a section where you fill out comments on the show. It's not a hotline. You might need to fill in some info first.
When I wrote in, I said nothing of complainers. I just said that I was pleasantly surprised that Derpy got a speaking role and that the response has been overwhelmingly positive. I saw no reason to mention that anyone was complaining. :) |

For the viewer relations thing, the option you want is "Network/Program Related". Then on the next page you can choose "The Hub". Then on the next page you can choose MLP:FIM.

I liked Derpy in the episode, and while I'm disappointed that some people felt she was an offensive stereotype, I do understand where they're coming from. As it turned out, Amy Keating Rogers only received 5 negative e-mails from fans. A bunch of us wrote in with praise for "The Last Roundup", and ended up being about 30+ e-mails. She responding to us all and sincerely thanked us for sending positive mail. She loves hearing positive feedback from fans.
We wrote The Hub and Hasbro, too, for good measure, praising the latest episode. So it appears everything has been handled. Also, take note, guys! The writers love positive feedback. :) (I'd post her e-mail response, but I honestly don't like posting private correspondence without the other party's permission.) |

Excellent post, Crowley. I've been watching all the episodes but I'm catching up with 5 months worth of Ponibooru and fan reactions to see how much they liked it. I was kinda looking forward to being all "Wow, they finally gave Derpy a voice!" I had NO IDEA there would be so much bullshit.
Funny thing is this is how a lot of people thought bronies would react to Luna seeing her the first time. No one could have foreseen it happening to Derpy instead. |
