"Sigh" ok. I like Derpy, hell she's one of the main reasons i startet watching ponies. And seeing her actually talk in the show was awesome. But the voice (though cute) did at some parts feel weird, and the voice could need a bit of work to get just right. I don't see her as being all that offensive BUT i can see how someone COULD see her as offensive.
Looking at the people who are offended i see some overreacting...but also some legit reasons, for some the word "derp" is hurtful, and used to mock and bully kids. and of course someone would be a bit hurt if they saw a character called that in a kids show. I understand that, i still like derpy, and i like that name more then Ditzy or the name Bright Eyes which just sounds mean, like calling someone who's slow in the head for Quickdraw(yea probably a bad example) But one thing offends people more then Derpy's name, or voice,or movement. and thats this ^. the reactions the community has to this. the yelling, the cursing and the refusal to see that someone MIGHT have a real reason to be hurt by this. Love and Tolerate...right? hell even i'm getting a bit annoyed how some in this community handles things. Like the naming thing, or Cherrymac. Yes i'll be a bit sad if derpy goes away, but i'm not gonna go into a fit about it. ^I thought so too but some have apparently used it to describe or make fun of disabled people. for me "derp" just means silly moment or action, but some people can be complete jerks. Got a line from one of the dozen or so articles i went through that seems to fit.

This has already been handled. Turns out Amy Keating Rogers only received 5 negative e-mails. At this point she received about 30+ positive ones from fans. A bunch of us even wrote to Hasbro and the Hub in praise of the latest episode. According Sibsy, folks at DHX also have NO IDEA about any trolls or negative response about the show. As far as I see it, writing in to show praise of the show is never a bad idea anyway, and Amy's an awesome writer. So yeah. It's not a big deal, this has been handled, it's over with. It was never really an issue to begin with. |
