Seems that Hex is not here yet so...
NYX was the goddess of the night, one of the ancient Protogenoi (first-born elemental gods). In the cosmogony of Hesiod she was born of Air (Khaos), and breeding with Darkness (Erebos) produced Light (Aither) and Day (Hemera), first components of the primeval universe. Alone, she spawned a brood of dark spirits, including the three Fates, Sleep, Death, Strife and Pain. Nyx was a primeval goddess usually represented as simply the substance of night: a veil of dark veil of mist drawn forth from the underworld which blotted out the light of Aither (shining upper atmosphere). Her opposite number was Hemera (Day), who scattered the mists of night, or Eos, the goddess of the dawn. In ancient art Nyx was portrayed as a either a winged goddess or charioteer, sometimes crowned with an aureole of dark mist. |

I've come up with a fanfic, where Nyx doesn't take the path of good and remains cold... well sort of. I wanted to make it more gritty more dramatic and more sad and also a bit more active.
I dunno much of the focus was a bit to much on Nyx and not enough on the others, and a few out of character situations did appear. I was going to try, what happens in someone else got involved? I'll post the rest of the idea in a moment... |

Nyx is reincarnated, by the cult, but is not found by the Twilight instead, a rather dutiful hunter after the cult for murdering his family and destroying the town where he lived. The idea was to have that OC raise Nyx like a daughter and hide her until he knew what to do.
And then find his way over to Twilgiht and introduce her to Nyx and then over some chapters between them and the mane 6 have the OC leave in search of the cult and have Nyx remain with Twilight for a while. The OC gets close and the cult get their hooves on Nyx, and in an terrible situation, Celestia kills the OC and Nyx watches her father being killed and drives her to unprecedented levels of anger which then gets her to fall to darkness. Afterwards a few days later, Nyx gets help to form an army and attacks the sisters at the castle. Luna is knocked out and taken to safety in another kingdom while Celestia goes and battles to the end, and a few other details i might not add in. Nyx takes over as Nightmare and such, a few points of view from background ponies and things, and we hit a rather interesting turn as Nyx creates her new castle near Ponyville. And then Twilight goes to face Nyx, and gets captured and held in prision. And the other elements of harmony flee from Ponyville and go into hiding for some time. Then as time passes, something happens where Nyx orders the death of Twilight and actually does hang her from a noose. But magically places her in stasis, and then hibernates her body. She plans to revive Twilight but is disrupted, as the other ponies try to rescue her. |

Then AJ and Rarity find her dead (presumed), and then takes her out of the dungeons with the CMC and gets to Spike who had used a temporary potion to aid in maturity help get them to safety and is hit by a spell from Nexus which severly injures him.
Once in safety they hide Spike and Twilight together as Spike goes into regenerative hibernation. The hiding place is sealed and Twilight and Spike rest. Meanwhile the other ponies flee to the other kingdom of old Arcadia where they find Luna and help her plan to retake the kingdom from Nyx. And thus gives birth to the NLR, New Lunar Republic against the Imperial Lunar Empire, (please suggest a better name). And 10 years pass and Twilight is finally awaken from her spell, and finds that she and Spike are in a cave and healed enough to leave. And of course she finds out about the world around them had changed and she finds that Nyx was now at war with the NLR and was keeping a harsh regime. Luna fights the good fight and the other elements fight doing their best as the ponies of freedom and such. AJ leads her ELA, Equestrian Liberation Army against Nyx in Equestria with the apple clan. Rarity aids in helping the development of new magic tools and spells and is heavily in industry and business, with perfection. Pinkie is moral pony of the forces and sings a lot. Fluttershy is medical specialist of the NLR. And there's a lot more of the story afterwards, which involve the news of Twilight's return and the continuing war. The Mane 6 can't stop Nightmare with the elements anymore and have to search for a new means to defeating Nyx, and then go on an epic journey across Arcadia to search for the keys that might help them. Nyx goes to confront them with agents and assorted hunters and many battles ensue. We end up with a rather dramatic ending with Nyx and the Mane 6 and voila, a very long story to write next to the Everfree chronicles i had planned out.
