Kamina is the memetic badass, but after all the character development I actually think Simon came out to be more awesome (partially BECAUSE he started out as a brat). And it's because he had Kamina to learn from (who in turn respected how Simon never gave up, and actually looked up to HIM because of that).
After watching this, and looking back at the character interactions, I gained a whole new respect for the actual story. In addition to the friggin' huge robots. |

Kamina was a total poser. He was great at inspiring people, but when it came to actually doing stuff himself, he wasn't so fantastic.
I'm not attacking him, that's an actual character trait of his. Remember what he said to Simon about how he wasn't as confident as he looked, and was just acting like it because he didn't want to let Simon down? |

^ In a way, but Dash can slow down and think things through like Older Simon. Kamina couldn't relax, he just went full tilt nearly all the time.
People try to make themselves believe that Simon was just another Gendo Ikari living in Kamina's shadow, but he evolved past that really early on. |
