I think you're all reading into this shipping thing a bit too much. The show has no hidden innuendos concerning the main characters. The attraction fans see between applejack and rainbow dash is entirely made up and has no basis in the show's canon. Lauren Faust said the show sgow wouldn't deal with romantic relationships. The upcoming ep with Big Mac and Cheerilee doesn't change this stance as they're supporting characters and not the main cast. And if anyone from the main six were to be romantically involved with someone, it wouldn't be with eachother. They're friends - friends don't suddenly fall in love with eachother. And besides, they would fall in love with male ponies. But I doibt it, Rarity is the only one interested in anyone (Blue Blood) and that's long gone. |

I'm with MortalKombatFan; Appledash is a bit overrated. What's the basis of this ship, aside from the usual desperate freeze-frames that serve as shipping fuel for every single ship? The fact they're both competitive, and tomboys (albeit pretty different types of tomboy)? That's no basis for a long-term relationship, though I suppose they could have a few good rolls in the hay before calling it quits. Their lifestyles, ambitions and temperaments are generally incompatible... and not in that "opposites attract" kinda way, just in a "you really piss me off" kinda way.
Rainbow would never be able to settle down to the pace of life on a farm, and AJ would soon become exasperated by Rainbow's laziness and a work ethic that wasn't just lax, but entirely absent. |

I also prefer ships where the two are different, but also complement each other in some way. I also love cute ships; and for whatever reason (not really sure why) I've never found Appledash the slightest bit cute. Rarijack is kind of cute, and Rarity is actually the only one of the mane 6 I can ship AJ with at all in a way I find satisfying.
Rainbow Pie and TwiDash are my favourite Dash ships. TwiPie also has some severe adorableness potential; and I think Twi might need someone that outgoing and free-spirited to really open up. |

They always struck me as the type of couple who call each other mean names as a form of affection. Sure sometimes there will be fights, but in the end everything'll be OK. It's a lot cuter than... Doctor_Hooves has it. And I think the reason why AppleDash isn't the slightest bit cute (at least for you and I) is that there's just way too much testosterone between the two of them. Also yes I don't think Applejack would ever be able to live with Dash's lazy ways if you tried to look at the relationship from a serious point of view.
But yeah, RainbowPie and Rarijack are pretty nice. There's enough contrast in the characters that it makes for some cute and entertaining moments, and as more than just some "hot lesbian sex." |

Shipping is an inherently selfish act since you're merely projecting your own desires onto the characters, irrelevant to how those characters actually feel about eachother. I personally find it distasteful, so I filter it out, but the odd untagged image does pop up.
However this image does rather muse me and what someone said earlier about molestia lampshading seems valid, since their ship exists purely for the voyeuristic pleasure of certain fans. |

Yes. Yes we are. AND IT'S SO MUCH FREAKING FUN. Seriously though, I personally ship AppleDash not only 'cause shipping comes naturally to me, but it just sorta struck me as a comparison to my boyfriend and I. Of course I know it's never going to happen. Duh. But still. Shipping couples is, like I said, fun! My reasoning is, with couples like TwiDash or FlutterDash, after the initial infatuation, the companionship would soon lose it's spark, and become, in a word, boring. I've seen it happen. However, you take a couple like AJ and Rainbow, and you've got one hell of a firecracker, with enough gunpowder to last a looong time. Granted, the explosions will get a little loud, but that's why there's a natural damper to keep it from getting out of hand! That's how it is in my relationship. We argue, a lot, but it's only because we're so alike! Just like AppleDash. You fall in love with your best friend, and you're in the best hands, "hooves", you could possibly be in. |

@Quill Despite feeling miffed at your seemingly smugly self-righteousness, I do agree with you to a point. Which is why I only ship stuff that doesn't actually exist, and isn't capable of feeling on its own. Like, say, candy-colored magical cartoon ponies.
As for the fanon/canon thing, fanon seems in most cases to grow organically from canon. I don't think most shippers watch some scene with some far-fetched innuendo and think it "proves" their OTP. Rather, I would think that most, like me, look at those scenes and elaborate on it in their minds, or in writing and drawing, and have fun with it. Or so I hope, anyway. |
