You're assuming he's that easily killed by simple violence. For all we know that would only make him strong as he feeds off her rage or something. He's not exactly a mortal entity, but rather a "spirit" or manifestation of a concept. Celestia on the other hand is just a really powerful pony. Plus, we already know Discord does just fine with his head detached from his neck, or split up into multiple forms. |

My interpretation is this; amidst the growing turmoil in the Equestria, Discord drop by to stir trouble and push things to chaos once again. By this time, however, Celestia's powers are beginning to grow out of control and her mind is getting affected by it.
Discord notices this and makes things worst by goading the Princess when she engages him in combat (with the Elements of Harmony not in the right place to do some good), giving an epic "The Reason You Suck, Really Badly" speech, pointing out every single failure and flaw she has, how everypony is turning against her, how much she craves her power, etc. All this is to push the Princess to a breaking point and allow him to 'Discord' her just like how he had once 'Discorded' everything else. Discord succeeds, but backfires on him spectacularly; though initially holding back her expanded power, fearing the consequences, the Hannibal Lecture, Discord hurting Twilight earlier and imminent defeat at Discord's hand finally causes her to snap. Cutting loose, she showed Discord her true might and thrashed him in an epic curbstomp, before finally ending the mad god. The victory was hollow - Discord succeeded in making her jump off the slippery slope, as she realizes how much she enjoyed having such overwhelming might. Things will go downhill from here. Good job, Lilithnanhart! A perfect scene of drama and conflict. The grayscale coloring creates an atmosphere in line with the story's general tone. The colored blood was brilliant in that it really drawn readers attention and make them register the full impact of the scene, which I think is Celestia about to kill Discord. Discord stayed in character, though I could see that while Discord remained so... Discord, I could see a subtle look on his face (the eyes, maybe?) that shows that he is absolutely terrified of Celestia deep down, allowing readers to fully understand how powerful Celestia had become, how far gone she is and what horrible thing she is about to do. (though it could be less subtle so the impact and fear in Discord could be greater.). The most spectacular part is that Celestia really looks like a horrifying monster in this scene; Her beastial, dragon like appearence, fangs in her mouth, glowing violet eyes of doom, that giant, three pronged sharp-as-swords claws pinning and drawing blood from Discord at the ground reflects this. This is reinforeced by the big, red, slasher style letters of Celestia's dialogue; and the last thing any readers would expect out of the always so kind and benevolent Celestia is her telling Discord that she's going to rip his head off, almost with sadistic glee in her voice. Let's hope the author had a way to turning her around! |
