All of the mane cast, Spike included, are serious perfectionists of a level not often seen in fiction. On the one hoof I'm pleased to see real issues handled so intelligently and realistically (at least in the context of colourful talking ponies), on the other it's unsettling to watch characters I care about be so easily and thoroughly broken down.
Regardless, at least Applejack doesn't have to worry about complete mental collapse when reality doesn't meet her expectations, like certain other ponies that could be mentioned. |
