Also Trackpad, if you're out there and watching, do more with Derpy and Mothman! She spends too much time with Flatwoods.

Completely out of Left-Field and yes, I want to see more Mothman in Equestria for the Lulz. For those that don't know, Mothman was an entity that appeared in Point Pleasant West Virginia in association with various other Fortean events. It was sighted and documented by highly reliable witnesses whose stories have not changed in decades. The name Mothman however, is misleading and it's the realization that a more accurate name for this entity would be Owlman is important. Therianthropes or half-human half-animal entities appear reliably in visions and other altered states of consciousness. Owls figure predominantly and universally in Esoteric Spirituality. One of the things that frightened the People of Point Pleasant so much about Moth/Owlman was that they had no model for this Entity appearing in their midst from Elsewhere. Yet if they had had any knowledge of Shamanic traditions, they would have had a better context and understanding with which to cope with what they were seeing.

@Cgeta

I wish I knew, Cgeta. Searching Trackpad McDerp mostly yields Ponibooru and MLPG archive results.

The film, "Mothman Prophecies" is loosley based on the actual Point Pleasant events, where there was a bidge collapse (December 15, 1967) around the time of the sightings.

Supposedly, there were UFO and MiB-type encounters at the same time, as well, including one video supposedly taken at the time of the collapse, showing many lights taking off from the forest- unseen by most, since all attention was on rescue and recovery at the accident site, and not the trees.

Xuncu: The Movie pissed me off, the whole sub-plot with his Wife was manufactured and thrown in by the writers. I don't know why, it made the movie into a kind of Schlocky Ghost Story. What makes the events in Point Pleasant so interesting is that it left those involved genuinely in The Dark as to what was going on around them. the original book by John Keel is a classic. Here is a favorite Essay of mine on the subject from Fortean Times: http://www.forteantimes.com/features/articles/252/invasion_of_the_doll_people.html

One of the funny things about this is the idea of Moth/Owlman having letters forced on him out of nowhere. That actually happened to John Keel and other witnesses would find notes slipped under their doors cut-and-pasted from magazine articles. At one point during the investigation, Keel picked a hotel completely at random only to find that a bunch of nonsensical messages had been left for him. He'd post mail to addresses he knew didn't exist only to receive replies . . . Who knows, maybe Derpy-mail is real?
