It's just a few silly ponies who got carried away with their expectations of you and your character. It happens to everypony, and trust me, you haven't had it worst: go seek Princess Luna, she'll tell you more! Just wait a while until you reveal whether you do or don't actually have a daughter - the fanrage of either announcement would probably cause you to hide away forever, and we wouldn't want that! Honestly, we leave a lot of opportunities for trolls to infiltrate our ranks and leave prime examples of how to truly piss off the majority of the fanbase. Put simply: bronies are the best trolls and the best counter-trolls. No wonder a lot of the Internet dislikes us. |

Like some other fans, I imagined Derpy's voice not being quite so deep; and it does indeed sound like they were trying to make her voice "sound stupid." She is barely functional as an individual. I watched it again a few times to be sure. But you guys are deluding yourself if you think she is anything other than mentally challenged. Right down to the slurred speech and inability to notice the repercussions of her own actions.
I don't think that making a retarded pony was very sensitive. It would have been just as efficient and a lot more "daww" inspiring if they had used more of the positive Derpy fancannon. Such as the "derpy is best mommy," "derpy is really smart despite being wall-eyed," or "derpy the mailmare" fics. We would know just as surely that the creators had been paying attention to us. And it wouldn't have created anywhere near the controversy. |

^^ To be fair, that emerged well after the original Derpy personality, and there wouldn't have been enough time for any of that to be incorporated alongside this personality. Chances are, it was squeezed in as it is, so they couldn't include other aspects even if they knew about them at the time of writing. |
