Well they never said it isn't. We rarely hear anyone say "Pinkamena", eh. |
| imnotgivingmynametoamachine #900087 5 months ago |
^Yeah, but going by that logic, EVERY pony's name could be taken as a nickname. I think it's best to just assume Derpy until told otherwise. |

I was actually wondering what happens to Pony names when they get married?
Could a ponies name change from the time they are born, get their cutie mark, get married, and become a grown up? I think its likely she has a nick name, being Dash only said "Derpy" ... but then again Rarity's name only comes in one part... so... |

To my friend who doesn't trust machines, I see your point there. There's no reason now why Derpy can't be her actual given name. However, since Rainbow Dash has called others by nicknames in the past, an arguement could also be made that Derpy is just what RD calls that particular pony. I'm not arguing one way or the other, but the possibility is there. |

Just think of it this way. What kind of sick parent would name their foal "Derpy"?
Tbh, I nearly stopped watching. I can't abide characters that exist only to be incompetent. Perhaps she'll get a scene in which she displays some sense and/or talent. I hope so. |

The same parents that name their kid "Snails", "Twist" and "Spitfire". |

@Anon1 Yes, but Pinkie is a shortened version of Pinkamena, like Derpy is a shortened name of Derpy Hooves. |

@imnotgivingmynametoamachine And there's no way to prove that someone's name in real life isn't their legal name or a nickname. Remember, there's a guy named Optimus Prime out there, someone named Superman bin Batman (or was it the other way around?), and that's not even getting into all the weird celebrity kid names. |
| Anonymous #900699 5 months ago |
No way to prove, that is, without legal documentation being on hand. |

The thing that doesn't quite sit right with me about people wanting to call her Ditzy is that there was never any indication that "Ditzy Doo" was even referring to her, whereas she's been called "Derpy" in show. Even if it could've been a nickname, it's still technically an official name. |
| Anonymous #901679 5 months ago |
I've always called her Derpy. What's the problem here? |
| Nebbie #903122 5 months ago |
Dash, your canon isn't powerful enuff. We need Celestia and Twilight to fire their canon. |
| Anonymous #903434 5 months ago |
She was officially Ditzy Doo in sketches that's why |

@#900385
@#903434 you do realize fyi, that derpy means nothing, while ditzy mean moron, idiot, nitwit, and dolt. |

and by nothing, i mean nothing harmful (Sorry for the confusion) |

As far as pony names go I've had this working idea that a pony is born with a part of their cutie mark showing, and using that some names make sense. Like SilverSpoon, or Applebloom. But I like the idea of modgular names which help explain Flutteryshy, who might have been just Flutter @ birth, and the shy added later because of her personality, also works for Big Mac, Granny Smith (who might have been named something else before getting to a late stage of life) and RBD. Either way, our beloved mailmare seems to not work with this in either frames as Derpy or Ditzy-Doo, what was her base name? Unless.. she was orphaned and doesn't know her original name and because of her klutzyness has picked up those other two names. Hmm I need to think on this. |

@900385
So, I you mean you hate Goofy, Patrick Star, Billy, Peter Griffin, Homer Simpson, Ed, ...? Also, stop being silly. "Derpy" comes from "derp", which means behaving in a silly/clumsy way, which was how she was acting. If you prefer "Ditzy", I think it's worse than "Derpy", because it means absent-minded/dumb. @903434 She was NEVER Ditzy Doo. That was a fanon assumption. Ditzy Doo (just like Moondancer on episode 1) is an UNSPECIFIED |
