The fans who use Derpy Hooves DO call her Dinky Hooves. |
| DeeperMadness #899950 5 months ago |
Yeah, I only normally ever see Dinky or Dinky Hooves. |
| Anonymous #899955 5 months ago |
Derpy Hooves was Ditzy Doo until she got her brain aneurysm that changed everything (for the better, mind you). Thus, Dinky retains her original name but is free to use both. |
| Draconequus #899956 5 months ago |
People do use Hooves as a last name for both.
Strange though, I've never seen anyone who likes the Sparkler as Derpy's daughter idea saying Sparkler Hooves. |

I've only ever see Dinky Doo. I figured "Doo" referred to her father. |

@Dracon:
To be fair, "Sparkler Hooves" sounds like a dangerous pyrotechnics experiment. Or a porn star's name. |
| Simlun #899965 5 months ago |
Because Dinky isn't related to Derpy. |
| cyber95 #899967 5 months ago |
I called Derpy Derpy Hooves because that is her name.
I call Dinky Doo Dinky Doo because it sounds better and last names don't mean shit. Like, yeah, sure, the Cakes and all, but if last names were a thing, explain the Apple family. |
| Draconequus #899975 5 months ago |
@Deeper
That's true... Oh God. Have I just made Sparkler a porn star? I'm fairly disappointed in myself. |
| DiegoHavoc #899979 5 months ago |
Dinky Doo sounds cuter. Also: aliteration. |

Assuming all ponies did have a two part name, what would Fluttershy's and Rarity's full names be? Applejack would be Jacqueline Apple, no? |
| Draconequus #900004 5 months ago |
This actually helps me bring up a question.
You know how Pinkie's middle name is Diane? Do the ponies with two names all have middle names? What about the ponies with one name? And can the singular-named ponies say "____ is my middle name"? It boggles the mind. |
| DiegoHavoc #900017 5 months ago |
@Draconequus: Rainbow Danger Dash. She wasn't kidding. |
| DeeperMadness #900022 5 months ago |
Well, having multiple middle names isn't all tha uncommon, really. And traditionally, you could interchange middle names with your first name. In fact Prince Charles wishes to become "King George" upon his coronation as the last King Charles wasn't so fondly remembered.
I would love to see the team play about with some of their names. Rainbow Mitchell Dash, anyone? |
| DeeperMadness #900029 5 months ago |
Actually, could Rarity have a surname? Maybe she's "Rarity Belle"? |
| Anonymous #900261 5 months ago |
There are exceptions, but the norm seems to be that ponies don't have family names. The apple family being the main showcase. So Derpy can name her daughter whatever she wants. |
| Anonymous #900398 5 months ago |
If Dinky is Derpy's daughter, it was suspected for some time that Derpy was properly named Ditzy Doo, a pony referred to in Winter Wrap-Up. |

My explaination:
Derpy used to be called Ditzy Doo before she had Dinky. She was also in a happy relationship with a unicorn, and worked at the post office. When she was pregnant with Dinky, she still went to work (she wasn't that heavily pregnant at the time) delivering letters, but got caught in a storm she'd forgotten was sceduled. She continues to deliver letters anyway, insisting to the staff that she could handle it. Flying to deliver one last letter, a bolt of thunder startles her, and she veers off course in fright, falling toward the ground. She knew she was going to crash, and thought about her baby she was carrying. She adjusted her position mid-fall to crash head-first rather than stomach-first, as she was originally falling. She crashed. Other ponies who were watching that day took her to the hospital - her brain was badly damaged from the fall, but the unborn child didn't suffer a scratch; Dinky was born several months later, and they found her to be perfectly fit and healthy. Why? Because Ditzy (or Derpy, since she kept getting her name wrong) absorbed the impact with her head just so the baby wouldn't be harmed. She loved her child so much, she was willing to permanently damage her brain just to protect Dinky. Nothing beats that kind of motherly love. But yeah, Ditzy's name is also Derpy in the same way Dr Robotnik's is Dr Eggman. |
