In all seriousness, in terms of morals and ethics, FIM>Christianity. Not even trolling. |
| CogWeaver #899573 6 months ago |
@PowerToole
I don't mean to start a shitstorm or anything, so just ignore this post if you disagree, but...I'd personally say....that....FIM=Mormonism.............*lets out a fluttershy squeak before running away* |
| CogWeaver #899577 6 months ago |
^In terms of morals and ethics I mean, derp |
| PowerToole #899578 6 months ago |
They don't usually wear clothes, so no room for magic underwear, CogWeaver. |
| FluttershyYo #899600 6 months ago |
@CogWeaver You have a point. I've known a mormon family for a long time and they are some of the nicest people I've ever met. Their religious beliefs are borderline retarded but they have av ery strong sense of compassion and family |
| PowerToole #899607 6 months ago |
@CogWeaver
Religions don't teach morals, they command actions and control behaviour. Instead of behaving morally because they realize their actions have consequences and after a valid evaluation of the situation, religious people behave morally (or they think they do) because they think they are being watched, they fear punishment and/or expect a reward. If I forgive you after you have faulted me because I have evaluated the situation and I concluded that societal cohesion is important and that holding a grudge is not productive, that means I'm moral. A Christian cannot evaluate the situation. A Christian would "forgive" you because the boss said so. That's not even really forgiving! Religions make a mockery of ethics and morals. Secular morality is far superior. /Rant. |
| Anonymous #899621 6 months ago |
^@PowerToole
There is something called Love and Tolerance. Your post shows neither. |
| FluttershyYo #899623 6 months ago |
^ while that is true for a lot of Christians you shouldn't make a blanket statement like that. They are Christians that behave the moral way that you describe just because they know it's the right thing to do. I've seen it, not often but I've seen it. btw not religious in any way, just trying to make a point |
| PowerToole #899624 6 months ago |
^
Tolerate it. |
| Anonymous #899634 6 months ago |
^ Must attempt to tolerate hypocrisy
Also your post got ninja'd. |
| CogWeaver #899636 6 months ago |
@Anonymous: nono, it's fine. He's tolerating my beliefs and showing me enough love to talk things out in a general manner
@PowerToole: I agree with you for the most part, but I think it might just be the way I was raised to say that that sort of thing would better be associated with "Dogma" instead of "Religion". And we could get into all the technicalities of what those words really mean, but I hope you get what I was saying. Yes, people think our teachings and beliefs are borderline crazy and have all sorts of misinformation about it, but none of that really phases me. All I was saying was that I found a good amount of simularities between the two. |
| Anonymous #899641 6 months ago |
So, who thinks Jesus' favorite pony would be Fluttershy. |
| CogWeaver #899647 6 months ago |
^This.
Also maybe AJ, since Honesty is her schtick... |
| PowerToole #899660 6 months ago |
OK, about my so called intolerance, I'll explain.
Sure, there is something called Love and Tolerance, but there's also something called facts. For example, Joseph Smith was a fraud and a charlatan and he made up the Book of Mormon. Sure, they usually have absolutely lovely families, but that doesn't mean there's any truth on the Mormon dogma. it's pretty easy to make the fallacious statement that because something has desirable results it is based on truth. Argumentum ad consequentiam. Now, it's unfair for me to make blanket statements, so FluttershyYo is right. When I was a Christian I wasn't the type of Christian I described. At least not completely. So, sure: I cannot say al Christians are the same. However, they are undeniably commanded to behave in certain ways and are discouraged to evaluate the situation they are in. That's why conservatives always complain about moral relativism, not realizing it's superior to rigid instructions that cannot even be called morals. |
| CogWeaver #899683 6 months ago |
^And that's a completely fair point of view for you to have. I won't preach and I won't argue my religion, though I do disagree. All I was saying was that I see simularities between FiM and my religious beliefs. |
| PowerToole #899688 6 months ago |
^You see similarities because we are pattern-seeking mammals and because of something called confirmation bias.
Guess who also perceives similarities between his life and FIM: It's-a me! |
| Anonymous #899694 6 months ago |
^ I'm pretty sure not all conservatives are Christian.
.........I just can't think of any that are not. Also I would take a fake display of kindness, than a sincere display of douchebaggery any day. But lets stop arguing about religion on a Pony website. We might offend someone. |
| CogWeaver #899695 6 months ago |
Sweet!
Like what? Seriously, I'm sincerely curious. |
| Anonymous #899703 6 months ago |
Dammit ninja'd.
Wait, Powertoole do you know Unicorn princesses, go on magical adventures, and break into songs. Because, if you do I want to live your life. |

@CogWeaver
Like friendship and family being fundamental and loyalty being one of the most valuable virtues a person or pony can have. But you don't need to be a Christian of any denomination, or a Muslim or an atheist to agree with that. I also value hard work and learning, and silliness and jokes. And well, I'm don't really practice sports any more, but keeping oneself in good physical condition is important. As for confirmation bias, I can't personally say I've been enjoying many sunny days and picnics as the ponies do, but that doesn't stop my pattern-seeking brain from perceiving a reflection of my life there. Whenever I see them doing something healthy on sunny days, I either remember my years as a teen when I partook on those activities because I had time, or I make a mental note to make time as soon as possible to simply go to the park and read there. Now you. |
| Anonymous #899764 6 months ago |
I have nothing more to add.
Something just bothered me about letting PowerToole get the last word in. |
| PowerToole #899791 5 months ago |
@703
Sadly, no. Except for the part about breaking into songs. I can't help it. But my three year old niece insists she's a Princess (and a flower, and a kitten, and sometimes a doctor), so in a way you could say I know a princess. She also thinks I'm a king because of my beard, and if the imagination of a child is not magical, then there's no magic in this world. I seriously need more adventuring, though. Thanks for reminding me that. One night stands count as adventures? |
| CogWeaver #899798 5 months ago |
^Well that was...kind of immature of you to do that...
Now anyways, back to the discussion - That's pretty great. I don't think I really made any connections to those kinds of things on a personal level, but I agree with you on those points. And yeah, you don't have to be of any denomination of any Faith to get those things. I might argue that they can help if you're already going that direction for yourself, but yeah. I'm not really sure what you mean by "confirmation bias" so I'll have to go look that up later. Now me? Well...a great deal of the things that I connect to mainly surround the Elements of Harmony. How they work, why they work, what their actual significance is to their world...things like that. I guess...it all sounds kind of pathetic when said out loud, and I could go deeper into it but...I don't want to start preaching what I believe. I don't think my beliefs have ripened enough for that... But yeah, I'll definitely look up some of the things you said, get a better understanding of what you were talking about. And I'll definitely take those kinds of things you connect with to heart. More here-and-now types of things. |
| CogWeaver #899800 5 months ago |
Augh, scratch that first part, I was meaning that at Anonymous |
| PowerToole #899818 5 months ago |
^I figured. And I agree that was kind of immature, but I can't force the guy like me.
But you see? You and I have similar values and could totally be friends. I already mentioned my niece, and her dad and I watch the show with her (I have to put up with the Spanish dub, but she's worth the effort) because we think the lessons imparted by it are universally positive. Also, I understand now that the connection you draw between the show and your system of belief is deeper than I thought. It goes into the symbolism and mythology of both FIM and Mormonism. That's not very surprising. All myths share common themes. Explore ancient mythology and non Christian religions and you'll find many similarities. |
| CogWeaver #899827 5 months ago |
^True that. It's astounding what you can find out in the world, what all people eventually project out through the ways they tick. |
| SoundwaveSuperior #900237 5 months ago |
any post showing any sort of religious icon is bound to start a flamewar. Just saying. |

^Unless you have bronies who watch what they say very carefully. We are a force to be reckoned with. |

Ugh. Looking back on it, my last comment was pretty immature. Sorry guys.
This is still a great picture though. |
