Let's look at Family Guy. It explicity mocks the disabled and mentally handicapped ALL THE DAMN TIME. Look at what they've done to the Joe character. He went from a strong, loveable yet disabled guy to the butt end of endless jokes consisting of punchlines that had nothing more to them than "Geddit? CUZ HE'S HANDICAPPED!!" I've never seen a petition against it, though, maybe people just expect crap humor from it nowadays. |

Cyanfunk, its not quite that clear cut. They didn't really show her as a functioning adult - her behvaiour could be construed as being like a mentally disabled individual. I'm well aware this was not the creators intention, they were just canonising some of her fanon attributes, buuuuuut I'd be lying if I said I couldn't see where the people who thought she looked mentally handicapped were coming from. They simply didn't show enough of her good side - or to put it simply, we need a Carrot Top, Derpy and Dinky episode. |

I don't get why everyone is fighting about this, I liked the .. what was it like Minute of Derp and that's it?
In my opinion Derpy acted just like I expected, Sounded Ok, (Not really what I expected but Pretty spot on for the character) and its pretty much natural to have a funny looking character do funny/stupid things. (Just look at Big Ed from Ed Edd and Eddy) So she wasn't a rocket scientist and she sounded funny, hay if this is going to be the case we might as well sign petitions about each time Rainbow Dash is depicted as "Tomboyish" or each time Apple Jack says "Ya'll" because that's putting down "Tomboys" (To look like Headstrong morons some times) and Southerners (To sound funny). At the end of the day, Derpy acted just as I expected, and really did anyone REALLY expect diffident? If she ever shows up again she might have the one "Lighting Strike" zinger line of massive intelligence but i don't see her as Twilight Sparkle smart here. It just doesn't feel right. But that's just like, One pony's opinion. (Also Lulz didn't read Replies) |

She is barely functional as an individual. I watched it again a few times to be sure. But you guys are deluding yourself if you think she is anything other than mentally challenged. Right down to the slurred speech and inability to notice the repercussions of her own actions.
I don't think that making a retarded pony was very sensitive. It would have been just as efficient and a lot more "daww" inspiring if they had used more of the positive Derpy fancannon. Such as the "derpy is best mommy," "derpy is really smart despite being wall-eyed," or "derpy the mailmare" fics. We would know just as surely that the creators had been paying attention to us. And it wouldn't have created anywhere near the controversy. |

I'm disabled and I love Derpy/Ditsy for who she is. if she is mentally disabled then they should have an episode that teaches you to accept people despite how the look on the outside. if not then leave her alone. rather then change who derpy is, the show should have people accept her.
You can't get rid of a disability just by eraseing someone. Ditsy/Derpy has become a loved member of the MLP comunity I say Derpy/Ditsy episode should be demanded rather then getting rid of a burden. |
