Not a fair accusation. Pinkie Pie and Rarity weren't in any real trouble, unlike Applejack, who Rainbow Dash knew was having some sort of crisis. So RD was still being the element of Loyalty here--trying to support the pony who needed her help the most.

I like how a lot of folks assume that each of the Mane6 never lapse from their Element. That's just dumb. You can be a very honest and truthful person, but that doesn't mean you've never told a lie. Its just that your honesty is the core part of who you are.

^That's why she tried to use technicalities on a Pinkie Pie Swear.
Not everyone subscribes to the idea that omitting truth is a lie.

Interestingly, this episode probably put the final nail in the "Dash should be honesty, cause AJ is actually the most loyal" thing that one of the lesser abridged series was saying. AJ was very unloyal.

@BackgroundPony17- they fell off of a wagon going full speed in the middle of a dessert how is that not real trouble...but aside from that I see what you're saying

@896796

Well really it's not like Applejack was being completely against her element this time either. She promised to come back with a lot of blue ribbons and prize money to fix the town hall. When she failed to do this, she felt like she couldn't go back. She did still try to fulfill her monetary promise though, albeit through different means.

@BackgroundPony17 THEY WOULD HAVE DIED IN THE DESERT HAD THEY NOT BEEN HELPED BY SOMETHING OR SOMEPONY BETWEEN THE END OF THE EPISODE AND WHATEVER EPISODE CHRONOLOGICALLY COMES NEXT! NOT TO MENTION THAT THEY HAD TO HAVE REALIZED THAT THE TWO WERE MISSING BY THE TIME THEY WERE BACK IN PONYVILLE OR A LITTLE WHILE AFTERWARDS! [/capslockrant]

How abouut...everypony got their element based on the area where they needed to grow the most?
Twilight needed to understand Friendship;
Rainbow Dash who never listened to anyone, had to learn Loyalty;
Applejack needed to learn to trust her friends with speaking her mind when she's troubled;
Rarity had to learn to get over her obsession with material things and putting others after her own career;
Fluttershy had to get over her social anxiety and temper issues.
It all makes sense! :p

I think the important thing is that neither AJ nor RD are one-dimensional characters. Sure, one represents Honesty and the other Loyalty, but that doesn't mean one can't be Honest and still dance around the truth, or be Loyal and still willing to abandon your friends if there's a greater need that demands your loyalty.

That's why I love this show--the writers go the extra mile to make the characters well-rounded and realistic. You rarely see that in children's programming.

Applejack: Element of Honesty - lies about not winning the 1st place ribbons
Rainbow Dash: Element of Loyalty - leaves Pinkie and Rarity behind
Pinkie Pie: Element of Laughter - Gets pissed off at Applejack for not keeping her Pinkie Promise

what is wrong with these Ponies?

I agree with you guys, Rainbow was being loyal by helping the friend who needed her the most (in this case, Applejack)

And of course, as a loyal friend she is, she totally went back to help her other 2 friends once the issues with AJ got solved... OH WAIT.

(not really talking seriously here, it's not like Fluttershy and Twilight didn't forgot about them either :P )

AJ never lied,she just didn't tell what had happened at the rodeo. She only kept dodging questions.

Rainbow Dash has been explained.

As for Pinkie Pie You just don't break a Pinkie Promise
