Why the blueberry fuck haven't I heard of ACTA until now? |
| Anonymous #896705 6 months ago |
Because they don't want you to find out. SOPA is bad - but it just to drive attenition from ACTA. IT IS SIGNED ON 26 January 2012. THAT IS IN 5 DAYS! |

SOPA is just in USA. ACTA is everywhere. USA, Canada, Japan, European Union and most other so-called free world countires. |

Wikipedia says that this law was proposed back in the 2006, how is that nobody complained about it until know? |

Guys, ACTA appears to be classified as an international trade agreement. Signing took place in Tokyo back in October, and multiple entities signed it. As far as I can tell, this is pretty much a done deal. |

The following countries are involved with ACTA:
Canada, the US, Japan, the EU, Switzerland, Australia, Morocco, Mexico, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, and Singapore. I seriously doubt that they would be able to get most of those countries to agree on half the bullshit that was in SOPA. ACTA has the potential to be bad, but it'll just get bogged down in international negotiations and is unlikely to be anywhere near as bad. |

@PonyRIG: if you read certain parts of the Wiki, it was behind closed doors until some of it got leaked in 08, where it took off.
and groups HAVE been trying to raise awareness, namely related to this being EFF |

Reddit mentioned ACTA while they were doing the SOPA protest, but they were one of the few.
ACTA isn't near as bad, but it still gives loose wording and broad authority to shut down sites. I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up being rejected by congress sometime after the next election (assuming we can actually get enuff voters to say GTFO to all the SOPA/PIPA supporters). Whether the EU wisens up after that could easily mark an important point for the future of copyright. |

Also, it violates net neutrality pretty badly. So I revise my stance: I'm not sure whether it's worse than SOPA, but it certainly is not to be allowed. |

Woah...this year will be harsh on my sanity. Im already almost considering jihad on to the closest copywrong work places. Petrol and dagger. Its the thought that matters overall, right? |

Please remind me why Senators and Governors and other politicians get to hold thier jobs for pretty over a decade while the President is limited to two, four-year terms?
OH wait, nevermind, I already know: They don't want another FDR to come along. They don't want a total badass to rule the Oval Office and give Congress, the Senate, and the Supreme Court a run for their money for 16 years. It's quite clear that Congress is full of puppets and people too stuck in their old ways to really grasp the importance of the internet, and how it is critical that internet freedoms are not breached. |
