Ugh though, that ridiculous little sketch was the worst part of the second-worst episode of the entire series. It went on for far too long; if it had just been a little 'derpy stop dropping shit you retard' 'oh sorry rainbow dash', that would have been neat. But instead this whole tedious minute-long bullshit, when they could have used the time to explain what the mayor spent the town's maintainance budget on (hey those interns might work for free, but there are still overheads and hush-money involved). Or maybe instead come up with a better idea for an episode. |

Her personality was exactly like most of the fandom assumed. Was it exaggerated? Yes, just like many other things in this show are. Take the baby cakes for example. Many times this exaggeration annoy me, but it was not the case this time, as I loved everything about her.
Also, being clumsy and retarded are two different things, and even if she was in fact retarded, it would not be a crime. There's many people in the world who suffer from mental disorders, and they're worthy of respect just as much as any other person. I don't care if she's retarded, autistic or whatever, I still love her. |

She is barely functional as an individual. I watched it again a few times to be sure. But you guys are deluding yourself if you think she is anything other than mentally challenged. Right down to the slurred speech and inability to notice the repercussions of her own actions.
I don't think that making a retarded pony was very sensitive. It would have been just as efficient and a lot more "daww" inspiring if they had used more of the positive Derpy fancannon. Such as the "derpy is best mommy," "derpy is really smart despite being wall-eyed," or "derpy the mailmare" fics. We would know just as surely that the creators had been paying attention to us. And it wouldn't have created anywhere near the controversy. |
