I was actually referring to how '-punk' has become a generic term. Cyberpunk was 'high tech, low living', and drew from the punk movement. Steampunk was the first of the lame genericisation of '-punk', it just means 'there is steam-powered shit' and the -punk has become meaningless.
tvtroeps may of may not be responsible for fucking the terms up the arse in the first place, but it certainly popularised the lameness. |

I'm mostly annoyed that I wasted so much time on that godforsaken website
and I take any opportunity to take potshots at tvtroeps but seriously I mean it, all that 'steampunk deiselpunk clockworkpunk' devalues the original term, and there is rarely anything 'punk' about those things. The closest thing that girl genius comes to punk is when she's staying with the circus guys. Doctor Who has always and will always be too tame to be called punk in any way. And so on. (ps I do enjoy the art, I have nothing against steampunk except for the name of the genre) |
