MASTERLINKX was uploading full episodes and like any teenage boy, I said "wtf is this pony shit?" and deleted it from my subscriptions right then and there. Later some people in Funnyjunk were using pics of the show in their comments like Twilight Sparkle having sunglasses fall on her and say "deal with it" then I decided to watch a random episode: Fall Weather Friends, then I kept watching another and another.

I was surfing the Internet around mid-April late one night, and on one of the message board I frequently visit, people were talking praise about this new show. I didn't catch the name of the show, so I asked what it was:

Me: Hey, what is this show you people are talking about?

Poster X: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

Me: LOL are you serious?

Poster X: Yeah, why?

Me: Really? My Little Pony? You mean that 1980s sugar-coated, diabetes-inducing parade of gumdrops, rainbows, and flowers?

Poster X: No, bro, this is different.

Poster Y: Yea, this is a reboot that came out about six months ago. It's awesome, man!

Me: ...are you serious, or are you just trolling me?

Poster X: *posts YouTube link* Go there, watch a few episodes, and see for yourself.

(Yeah, it's one of the few times I asked a question on the Internet that didn't result in someone saying that they had sex with my mom.)

As you can guess, I was skeptical. But from what I heard, this show had pretty much taking the internet by storm, judging by all of the forum chatter and all of the pictures on DeviantArt.

So, I decided to click the link out of curiousity.

After the video ended, I thought to myself, "Holy shit, what right does this franchise have to start kicking ass?"

...

And that is how I found the show.

This is about the umpth time I've told it but. I was looking at the Snafu Comics forum in February and saw there was a thread about the show and saw it had multiple pages. I didn't click on it and promptly when about my way. Then I saw people talking about on this other forum I'm a moderator for in the ChatBox. I googled the show and then came back to the people talking about it and asked why everyone was talking about it all of a sudden.(This was the day after Feeling Pinkie Keen Came )

After people gave me some more info and a link. I watched the first episode after opening and closing it multiple times. I then manned up watched it and found myself enjoying it(questioning myself along the way as to why.) But After applebuck season back when AJ was my favorite I was sold. I watched the rest of the episodes 14 at the time in one sitting and here we are today.

What got me into the show were the endearing characters, voice acting, script writing(the show doesn't talk down to the audience),and the songs. Not to mention it reminded me of the days I would sit down with a bowl of cereal and watch some Saturday Morning cartoons, and the glory days of Cartoon Network.

I saw animated pony gifs in the Transformice forum, I didn't know if it was supposed to be a good show or some weird 4chan meme. I searched for my little pony on youtube but unfortunately only saw gen 1 stuff and gave up. But then I saw Pony Effect 2, thought it looked awesome, and I searched harder. I ended up watching four episodes that night.

Something like this:

Phase 1 (Jan-Mar 2011): "WTF are these new reaction images? What are those things even supposed to be? "Ponies"?! Just some stupid new internet meme I guess." Ignore them.
Phase 2 (Mar 2011): "Oh, My Little Pony. It still exists? Say, that yellow one looks cute."
Phase 3 (Apr 2011): "OK, fine. I'll check it out soon." (Increasing pony memes and reaction images everywhere.)
Phase 4 (mid-May 2011): Brony4Life. "Fluttershy is the best pony."
Phase 5 (Jun 2011): *Rainbow Dash hate is strong everywhere* "Poor Dashie, everyone hates her. But I won't hate you. You're the best pony forever."

Why I like it? It's cute, the animation is good and Rainbow Dash.

It was a tale to be told.
I was viewing the Escapist forums but I saw an influx of pony avatar.
Curious I checked out all the Pony related threads and questioned why so many people liked the show.
I was never given a clear answer so I browsed TV tropes to view related information about the show.
I finally got the courage to watch the show while playing in the Internet cafe near our school.
Watched the first episode and I remain unconvinced so I continued viewing in my house with my headset on.
I like what I saw and that is how I became a brony.

I was kind of aware of it back when it was gaining internet popularity. At first I was like "Why are so many people posting pictures of Stocking as a horse on Deviantart?" It wasn't until my younger brother force fed me the first episode (he does that whole "you gotta watch this and you gotta play that" a lot until I give in). At first, I was in denial. Telling him that I wasn't into it. But soon I found myself being drawn into it. Eventually I had to begrudgingly tell my brother he was right so that I didn't have to watch ponies behind his back.

I... don't remember. I think I heard about it several times and thought it was a joke or that they were being ironic. But it kept popping up in different places. Eventually I just thought that the idea of such a girly show having such a large male fanbase was HILARIOUS! I just figured "what the hell, let's see what this is all about".
I think I lucked out, because the one I happened to see first ("Baby Cakes") was a pretty good one that started off strong. Pinky's facial expressions and personal "Tex Avery physics" bubble were what drew me in initially. Maybe if I'd picked a different episode I would have quit after a few minutes and just moved on with my life.
Second one I saw was "Lesson Zero" and I was hooked. Hilarious. Favorite.

Someone on youtube faved a music video(the 7artists one)
When I read My Little Pony in the title, I thought "how can something with that show be any good?"
Ignored it.
My brother watched and got me to watch it.
After watching for the millionth time I got curious.
Decided "What the heck, Ill watch the first episode.
I watched the first episode. Then the next one, and the next one, and the next one, etc.
Later a video comment talked about Cupcakes. Said it was grimdark as fuck.
I naturally couldn't resist.
Through Cupcakes, I discovered Equestria Daily
And here I am today!

Why do i like it? It reminded of older shows I LOVED, like Dexters Lab, Johnny Bravo, and that era in general. For the first time in years, there was a show I actually really enjoyed! I'm not what really pulled me in, but once i was in, i grabbed on, and i don't plan on letting go any day soon.

^ Only two other Anons so far? Mildly impressed really.

About the time pony reaction images started spilling over into /v/ - before the ban waves - I became aware of it.

I understood it was MLP, but I didn't read any more into it until about late summer when I started lurking /co/ to find out what the hell this was. Grew increasingly curious and started exploring the fanworks, and was amazed at just how much content there was already.

Didn't actually watch the show itself until after The Return of Harmony Part 2 had aired. Before I sat myself down to actually watch the first episode, I was actually feeling quite a bit of trepidation along the lines of, "Am I really doing this? I almost know I'm gonna get hooked and hooked bad - and it's to My Little Pony of all things."

First episode led to the next, then led to the third, and so on until the 12th before I had to call it a night. Finished the rest the following night and been avidly following ever since. Later discovered the irony that I used to nonchalantly watch Gen 1 MLP with my sister when I was much younger and had nothing better to do, and now look at what I'm watching.

At a time when I didn't have a computer, I used a PSP for all my Internet needs, I saw threads of it on 4chan. I liked the art style and how adorable everything was and how people on 4chan of all places was all over it. I got a bit curious and I wanted to watch it, but no computer and no control over the TV kinda made it hard. When I got a borrowed laptop for 2 weeks, I watched it all in about 5 days and kinda got an addiction to ponies. It didn't help when I had to give back the laptop and the only known place I could find ponies was 4chan. Finally got a computer and am now consistently viewing ponies.

As a side note: Pony withdrawal sucks.

This did me in:

I literally didn't even know the show existed. I never followed the cartoon scene (since most are utter trash or just boring) and I stopped visiting Internet Meme Database or 4chan for a long time.

Watched a random episode that was airing (Winter Wrapup) and I was instantly hooked. I instantly knew it was a winner.

Okay, how I got into it is quite typical and uninteresting.
I kept hearing that everyone across the internet was into My Little Pony back in like, June or July or so, and I just thought it was funny. I kept hearing about it over and over, and eventually I got curious and watched Episode 1. I got 5 minutes in and something distracted me. Wasn't a brony yet.
A while later, like a few weeks or a month or so, one of my friends was posting a play by play comment update on his Facebook page of his reactions to Episodes 1 and 2 of the show, to see whether or not this new fangled My Little Pony cartoon was any good. It was funny to see his reactions minute by minute, and he was sucked in, so I gave it another go. I thought it was okay at first, so i kept going. I was hooked.
I found out about Ponibooru by mention of some other site, don't remember which, so I checked it out. I saw all cool art and funny pictures, and thought "Eh, why not join?"
And that's how Equestria was made.

I first heard about it in the entry for The Worf Effect on TVTropes...

"My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic is a children's show about, well, friendship being magic, so obviously physical force never accomplishes anything. As a result the frontline fighters (Applejack and Rainbow Dash) are always getting their butts kicked. Twilight also gets worfed in Stare Master, which is a little fairer since she's evidently overpowered compared to the others and has defeated (often single handedly) most of the show's villains."

It caught my interest enough to check out the main page and the rest is history.

I've noticed MLP:FiM first around deviantart but never thought much of it. A year or so later I was letting my little brother watch some videos on youtube while I make sure he doesn't click on anything unsavoury.

We stumbled upon kyrospawn videos and I started to grow fond of the characters... then when I had another day free... watched an entire season in one sitting.

There was a magical time when I used to play TF2 in the Halolz server. We used to do dramatic readings with very bad fanfiction while we played. One night, one of the guys decided to read a clopfic about Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie. Everyone was laughing but I was surprised that most of them were fans of the show, so I decided to check it out and ended up loving it. I think that was...in May/June 2011.

Well, I was on Fchan I was on... Um... Tvtropes and there was a clop thread article for the new MLP cartoon. Now I assumed I'd be able to just get in and jerk off read and absorb knowledge about this interesting new cartoon, but everyone there seemed more interested in discussing it than posting porn documenting tropes.

At the time I figured it was just a furry troper thing, but I eventually coaxed myself into watching a few episodes. I think by the time I had caught up, I was able to watch "Swarm of The Century" brand new on Friday.

Now I've convinced most of my best friend to watch and ready my erotic fanfiction.

What first planted the seed in my head was a YouTube video called PonyCraft 2, at first, I had a little respect for the guy for being able to watch like 17 episodes of a little girls show to make something as awesome as that. Sure enough, I watched the video over and over and about a week later, I got curious, so I searched for the first episode on YouTube...

I got until the first line of the intro song and lolnope'd out of there.

About five months later, I was bored out of my mind, on Memebase I think, and I saw that MLP had its own section, so again out of curiosity I clicked on there. It was pretty funny, I had a few laughs, but not really getting many of the references. Then on one of the pages, there was a youtube embed for the first episode, so I thought "Eh, why the hell not." This time, I skipped the intro (in fact, I didn't actually start liking the intro until I heard Alex S' intro remix), and watched the first episode. By the end of it, it had me very intrigued, and I just couldn't leave it without watching the second episode. After the second episode, I sort of just wanted to watch more, though I didn't really start liking it until Winter Wrap Up, holy shit, I blasted that song for about a week after I heard it. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Although there were a couple of things that had made me aware of the show a little bit before, the beginnings of my pony obsession can be summarized in four words: Dikekike, Friendship is Magnets.
I sort of mulled around with it in my head for a couple months, and didn't really watch my first episode until July, (FPK, because I read about Derpy dropping things on Twilight) but after that I was absolutely hooked.

August 2011 if I remember correctly. I was looking at the Transformers Prime page on Tvtropes which had a link to MLP mentioning it as another revival. Got curious, checked it out, noticed the article mentioned 'self-aware humor, a more streamlined art style and strong characterization', watched the first episode on youtube, kept watching. And here I am. I'm a sucker for good cartoons.

I've always been in favor of candy-colored ponies on principle. I observed patiently as the internet slowly caught onto the idea that unicorns are awesome, always falling back on "irony" to protect their precious manliness. I used to look up the old shows sometimes because I really wanted to like them, but they were so very stupid and the whiny voices were intolerable. Then pony art started looking different and there were a few mentions of the new show such as in Shortpacked. The first glimpses made me a bit disappointed that the round-headed characters didn't really look like horses anymore, but that fell away upon watching the first episode, which started with "See this pony? She's galloping. We're not too lazy to animate how a horse runs in a goddamn show about them." I watched all the episodes at once, Bridle Gossip being the most recent at the time, which was before 4chan exploded and all that. Was super impressed with the jokes and stories in a kids' show often going outside the bounds of the predictable.

I wasn't getting on the internet a lot, before I watched the show.. And like most people, I was just curious why ponies were popping up all over youtube, 4chan and everywhere else. I'm a MAN, the only reason why I knew My Little Pony before was because my older sister watched the 1st generation when she was a little girl. I thought the entire internet was trying to troll me. So I watched the first episode. Bucking loved it. The animation, the storyline, the characters, everything about the show was absolutely AMAZING! I had weird feelings about it. Started to question my own manhood. But eventually just didn't care. And now here we are, on pony websites, watching it on the Hub every Saturday, buying the episodes on Itunes and purchasing other MLP merch. My sister and I have been more close than we've been in 15 years, and I'm happier than I've been in a long time. :)
