All of the Rarity-dislikers' opinons are true except for 2-11, for the obvious reasons stated.

Rarity is worst pony.

The funniest thing about Applejack...even though people vote for her as the least popular of the mane six, she's not only the only character to appear in every episode of season 2 so far, but she's also appeared in more episodes than any other character in the series.

Only sensationalist kiddies don't like Applejack.

Rarity on the other hand is a trully selfish bitch, almost as bad as Rainbow Dash.

I've always loved Applejack and disliked Rarity, but it's just my personal preference. I'd take a rough and tough person over a "sweet and elite" one any day.

Yeah, tell Hasbro that. They wanted it that every episode can be watched in any order.
So, Rarity couldn't say that RD won the Best Young Flyers Competition.

"So, Rarity couldn't say that RD won the Best Young Flyers Competition."

Either way, Rainbow Dash is still the element of Loyalty, one of the ponies that defeated Nightmare Moon. Unless you want to believe that this is before Twilight moves to Ponyville.

Yet the haters don't seem to bring up the episode where Rarity disobeyed every natural instinct she had about artistic design and good taste in order to give her friends what they felt they wanted.

I dunno. Maybe I'm biased, since I have a tendency to be a freakin' hipster and root for the un-favorites of popularity polls, but it feels silly to me to hate most fictional characters, especially one of the well-written well-rounded members of the Mane 6 + Spike.

I like Rarity because she's like that Yin character similar to Daffy Duck or Strongbad. They're funny because of their flaws.

People that dislike Rarity are people that like Mary Sues, characters who have absolutely no flaws. Go watch a show composed completely with characters like that, its totally boring.

S1E16 was a lesson-learning episode for Rarity. All of the Mane 6 have had episodes like this.

S1E20, Rarity knew this was outside Fluttershy's comfort zone, but Rarity knew this was a huge favor and was most appreciative. For the second half, it was a comedy of errors, with neither pony clearly communicating with the other.

S2E10, Spike was happier seeing Rarity happy, than he would have been keeping the gem to himself. That directly parallels the greed dragon plot. I can't believe we're still debating this one.

S2E11, OP is correct. That's Princess Platinum, not Rarity

Really, I don't really have a problem with almost any of these. She's a giant ham (endearingly so, in most cases), and these are all completely in character for her. With the sole exception of...

SWEET AND ELITE. So bad I yelled at her through my TV. She quite clearly chose Canterlot over her friends in the first half; she half-assed Twilight's dress so she could socialize. And she got away with that (Twilight ended up liking it, to her relief). Lied about who her friend Rainbow Dash was, in order to be more popular with the cool elite ponies. Got away with that. Called in sick to Twi's party. Almost got away, but got caught (surprise visit). Lied through her teeth anyway (wet Opal), got away with it in the end. Continuously ducks out of Twi's party in Canterlot. Gets caught, yet still gets away with it (due to Twi misunderstanding her motives). Then, at the very end, after thinking about it for waaay too long (cue me screaming at my TV), she decides "hey, maybe I won't denouce my friends right in front of them". And deciding to not be an ice-hearted backstabber exactly once, suddenly redeems the rest of her actions in this episode? Don't think so.

The explanation for Sweet and Elite (which I agree with) is that she really did want to finish Twilight's dress for her birthday (otherwise why would she have offered to make it in the first place?), but she was under pressure to attend the events that Fancypants and other had wanted her to attend. Lying about Rainbow Dash was, again, something she did under pressure because she was afraid of being laughed at and judged again like she was earlier in the episode. It wasn't a /good/ thing to do by any means, but it's understandable when, under pressure, you can't use reason and remember that she won the Young Flyer's Competition.

She would have never needed to lie had she remembered to be proud of who her friends are and not care about what other people think. As a businesswoman, she knows that making good first impressions is extremely important, but obviously got carried away by all that.

Don't forget in the second half of season 1, episode 1, Rarity was the first to engage in violence. She kicked a fucking manticore in the face. Classy and feisty. *meow*

@TheAntiCat after thinking about it, you're right. On occasion I've lied to friends, and been lied to, and that's not the reason this episode gets under my skin.

It's *why* she lied. It reeks of middle school drama, and triggers a bad memory or two. Rarity's friends (and all of Ponyville really) are the geeks and unpopular kids. Canterlot, naturally, is the cool clique. Rarity is genuinely good friends with the former, but pines to fit into the latter. When she finally gets her hoof in the door with the clique, everything that used to be important to her (her best friends, their birthday party, the heartfelt gift she was making for said birthday) immediately take a backseat. She even sings a song about how being popular is, essentially, better than her old best friends (she bails on Twi's birthday party immediately after that song). She's so afraid that the clique will see her with her lame old friends, that she almost denies knowing them, as they're standing right in front of them. Episode ends with her conveniently doing a 180-turn at this point, and weakly tells Celestia it was a no-no.

I've been Twilight in that analogy, and not with the cop-out ending. Way back in middle school, I've had I-thought-we-were-good-friends deny being my friend to my face, because they didn't want to risk getting kicked out of the cool kid clique. It kinda sucked a lot. So I'm sorry if I take an ep like Sweet and Elite personally.

Part of the reason the Rarity gets so much heat is because she IS a flawed character. In fact, all the other five ponies are flawed as well, though it can be said that Rarity's flaws shine more so than others.

People shouldn't take it too personally if she is this way. Because if she was all perfect and flawless, not much of a character there, and it'll be like G3 again, all flash no substance, and then people will complain that the ponies are too unrealistic.

This is a show, therefore a reflection of real life, therefore the flaws we see in the ponies is an opportunity for us to learn from them, not for us to bicker on petty little details and not learn from them.

What are we, teenagers? *Snicker snicker*
