For some reason I thought of the Harvest King. |

Wait, after looking for a couple of minutes, I see that the mirror is labeled "Erised".
(Those with lack of Harry Potter knowledge: that's 'desire' spelled backwards, and the mirror shows your deepest desire) ... Celestia wants to be a tyrant!! |

"Sometimes, I just want to vent at all the stupidity and greed surrounding me- just burn the foals away for their incompetence, selfishness, and occasional borderline treason. But no, that isn't the right way for a government to function. So I scheme, and I break their agendas one by one, keeping Equestria as good as I can; even with over a thousand years of experience at dealing with their ilk, it doesn't get any easier. But many never quite catch the hint, and those that drop out are replaced by other cretins and sycophants. Ponies that would be worthwhile politicians either get corrupted by the political machine, or marginalized, or never get into a position of use in the first place, and any attempts to put them somewhere useful only exacerbates the corruption. So, it feels as if only I was holding back the tide at points. I'm glad I got Twilight out before she became one of the many, or worse.
"So if I ever look vaguely annoyed at you, sister, understand this: I'm not angry about your attempt to take over Equestria, or to bring about eternal night. I'm jealous that you got to vent once, were forgiven by the public at large, and got away from all of this politicking and bureaucracy for a while. "I just hope you'll help me hold off the worst of this tide." |

Its been only a week since Celestia was forced to banish her sister to the Moon. Everything may be returning to normal, but still the goddess of the Sun grieved, and still she felt her heart hallow, empty of all warmth and happiness, of all feelings...
Except for one thing, one black spot of dark feelings, an aspect of herself which she thought she too had banish, just before she had to confront Nightmare Moon. She mustered the will, and went to the mirror, THE mirror, Erisad, the Window of True Self and the Glass of Personal Revelations. She looked on, and saw her own reflection in the mirror, an Alicorn of alabaster with mane and tail of pastel rainbow, and eyes of bright pink. She glowed with an aura of compassion and benevolence, and she looked so pure and noble. She closed her eyes, and she felt her horn glow with power, and magic flow through her body, pouring towards the mirror. By the time she reopened her eyes, the image had changed. The Alicorn was still there, with her slender equine frame of alabaster, but that's about it - her mane and tail replaced by two, blazing fires of gold and red, like the flares of a Sun. The eyes, once soft and round, was replaced by two stilted pupils of blood red. Her reflection had the eyes of a dragon. Solar Blaze smiled wickedly at her, and Celestia could feel the insidious malevolence radiating from the image. Celestia: "I thought I have banished you." Solar Flare: "My sweet beautiful Celestia, why such a sour mood? Now that Luna is gone, I wouldn't be so... bitter... at the only being who could spend the rest of your existence with you without dying off like insects, just like our pitiful subjects." Celestia: "Don't you dare play with me, Solar Flare. You are not a being, you don't even exist, and I certainly would not spend the rest of my existence with you!" Solar Flare: "Then why did you came back for me?" Celestia "I... just wanted to make sure you are gone. I never want to see that face of yours again. Do not think I have any ulterior motives." Solar Flare: "My, my, did the Princess of the Sun just lied to herself? You are obviously trying to talk to me, because you don't want anypony else know what are feeling now. You come to me because only through me you would vent all that terrible guilt you felt for banishing your sister... and to banish all the other terrible, terrible thoughts you have." Celestia: "I have nothing of that sort. You think you are suppose to comfort me? I don't need you to do that." Solar Flare: "No, but you certainly do need me... and as for your accusation, I am not here to comfort you, just to tell you what you truly felt, deep beneath all that soft vain virtue. Even if you don't need me, you would never be able to get rid of me, Celestia... And do you know why?" Solar Flare: "Everyday you put on that loving and caring face of yours to your sister and to the rest of this kingdom, having to smile at all those ungrateful little gnats. You carry the weight of a kingdom on your shoulders for generations, you have to raise the Sun for your little subjects. You taught them how to live with one another and kept them from going onto each other's throats at the first opportunity they got. You did everything a benevolent goddess would do for her little ponies." Solar Flare: "And yet, for all your hard work and sacrifice, did anypony, especially your sister, ever thanked you for it? They never did. They carried on their pathetic little lives taking your gift for granted, like if they deserved it. And after all you taught them, they still let their own little flaws consume them and forcing you to solve their each and every failings. You endured it since you took the throne from Discord thousands of years ago, Celestia; doesn't all this bother you? You told me you certainly did. I can almost taste the frustration and anger radiating from that glorious veil of purity you hide behind." Celestia: "So what if I did? I was wrong... I forgotten they loved and adored me, they always had. Celestia: "I shouldn't even had cared what horrible things they say about me, but I let it get to me...I let my own frustration clouded my vision, so much that I failed to notice their love, and in it they had forgotten my little sister. All that had happened was because I was... just as angry as she was." Solar Flare: "You have every right to be angry as your dear little Sister. They never really bowed down to you out of love, and you know it; you could see it in their eyes they are AFRAID; they only pretended so they wouldn't be punished by you, and your great power." Solar Flare: "They were not only afraid of you, they were envious, JEALOUS. You raised the Sun so they could even be able to live at all. Their little dark hearts desired to be as great as you are, but they knew they would never be able measure up to you. Its only natural they looked down at you to make themselves feel better. They refused to admire your Sun and your day, some of them even have the gall to make those pathetic excuses about how they would 'go blind' if they did, just so they won't have to admit how hopelessly they depended on you. ." Solar Flare: "And they made you a subject of their scorn and curses when you can't be there to solve their little problems and ills. Did you hear all those hurtful, HURTFUL names they named you? While they think you ain't listening to them? A tyrant? A lustful deviant? Even a fettered goddess like you would be so hurt by them, especially for that last one." Solar Flare: "It's just so unfair, is it? After all you did, and this is how they repay you? Nothing but generations of scorn, fear and jealousy?" Solar Flare: "Well all that frustration and anger must go somewhere. So you created ME. That's why I haven't gone yet. I am you. I am part of you. And I would always be with you as long as you lived." Celestia: "And I should never had created you! You costed me my sister! You blinded me to the darkness growing in her! You made me jealous and angry of her as she was of ME! Tell me why I should had listened to you?" Solar Flare: "She was responsible for her own fall. Who would had thought that while those gnats would scorn and fear you, they had the gall to completely ignore your cute, innocent little sibling, and who knew she would let it get to her, and let that horrible, selfish side of her take over and want to cast you down and make night eternal, so she could be 'loved' and 'admired' as you are? Solar Flare: “Though I thought it would had been you who think that she got the eyes of every mortal eye in Equestria, and want to cast her down so you could be the sole ruler, so your day could last eternal and make them truly love you. How convenient your sister moved first -" Celestia: "Don't you EVER suggest that! I would never -" Solar Flare: "Admit it, Celestia. I saw into your thoughts the night before, wondering how the ponies would feel if... when... they were told they would never see the vain beauty of the Moon and the stars again. If you had let me out, I could had made it all possible for you..." Celestia: "Get out. I want you out of my head, do you hear me? Get out, I never want to see you in my mirror again!" Solar Flare: "... Alright, Princess. I would leave you be, because I know, and so do you, you would never truly remove something so fundamental to your nature as I am. You would never escape the fact that deep down, there's is a little nightmare of rage and spite that would just want to lash out at everything, just like Nightmare Moon." |
