Secondly...well, that's pretty much my problem atm...and I could use some pointers from fellow Bronies

Please?

So basically you're saying that you have ideas for original storylines that you're trying to turn into pony fanwork? If that's the case, I'm not sure that there's much you can do. If an idea is better off as an original story, you're better off not trying to force it to become pony-related just for the sake of posting it here.

Agreed with WatermelonRat. Though to be fair, good writing can integrate some pretty far-flung ideas. See the Evangelion/WH40k crossover fic for example.

Worst comes to worst, post up on fanfiction.net and see what happens.

Your goal shouldn't be pony, it should be to produce the work as well as you possibly can.

It's not so much for the vain gesture of just making things pony-related so I can post and be seen on here (heck, I'm already doing enough of that crap with just writing comments on other people's work) but more for the sake of sharing my ideas with others.

I'm not trying to be cocky, but I have a feeling that a lot of what I imagine could be considered as pretty good ideas. The thing is, they're not so good as to say that they can be entirely stand-alone. I want to be a part of the community here!
If I wanted to go out and claim new territory for a completely new idea, I would have done so. But I feel like I ought to give something back to this fandom, something that others can look over (for better or worse) after I've left to other interests of mine (though that probably won't happen as long as the show is alive [which actually adds to the issue of not adding to the fanbase when I can]).
The other thing is that the ideas aren't necessarily original storylines but more just original concepts that can fit into the pony fanbase...but my problem, I'm finding, is that (1) I find it very hard to alter another's creation for my own "original" purposes, and (2) I'm seemingly unable to keep my ideas grounded to a single fanbase - they keep floating up to the realm of the completely original while I've already established that that's exactly not what I'm going for.

@Cog

Other than your unusually-motivated compulsion to contribute, that just sounds like a good brainstorming session. Ever considered just putting pen to paper and writing or doodling something just to see what comes out? Categorizing or interconnecting various ideas in a medium outside of just your own thoughts may help you find a direction for your efforts. Perhaps after you've gone a little ways into "original territory" in a different medium you can think of how to tie it back to the fandom?

Just make your own universe like the tumblr blogs and use artistic license as an excuse.
(no bs, this is my honest advice)

You're not the only one with far out ideas. If you've been hanging around the fandbase long enough, you'll get an idea what usually works best with ponies. And if all else fails, just do what you like to do, no one is stopping you from posting whatever. (I would name examples but i don't want them to get more followers.)

Mine is part of an ongoing storyline, ponies just happens to be the next universe to join it. I think my friend here Wheezie told you about in a post about WesDaaMan. I'm changing it a bit, moving segments around. I'm sure it's a good meld. My character is a tad nervous about being a negative or caustic influence on them. So he tries to stay in the background, while his menagerie of friends do their work. I've developed a "Griffy" and "Sonichu" scoring system, and if it gets anywhere more than 3 in the score in a scene, it has to be rewritten, moved or simply cut. Yeah, I'm my own worst critic.

Best to use ponies as a supplement to your original ideas. Your art should encompass a wide variety of styles and then you have your favorite that you typically use. Ponies are just one thing, big as they may be.

Usually the problem I have is that an idea which seems real cool requires a bit more skill than I believe myself to have, which more often than not is the case as I've been drawing so much less lately.

Its called not giving a fuck. Do what you want, draw what you want, write what you want, and put it where you please.

You must understand that you are writing/drawing to a forum of people with established opinions and that opens you to rejection, but it is your right to speak openly, regardless.

No one, and I mean NOBODY has the right to silence you.

Creative tyranny is in my mind the ultimate expression of artistic injustice, just because you find your thoughts to be rejected by others, in no way makes your beliefs less valid. Disregard, throw off such offal, and speak openly.
