I remember that fic where it's revealed that Derpy talks gibberish because she owns a snake pet (which travels with her in a saddle) and it ONLY understands Derpy's instructions if she talks in gibberish.
When Derpy explains this and apologizes to Twilight and friends for her pet's behavior, they all jawdrop. |

Word salad. The direct cause is Wernicke's aphasia. This Ditzy though has recovered some word comprehension, which is apparently possible with this condition. I added that if she's stressed, excited, or angry, language comprehension becomes increasingly difficult; this, I'm unsure is medically possible. |

Yeah, it's medically possible. My headcanon is that she's basically Twilight-tier intelligent, but a previous injury paired with Wernicke's aphasia renders her effectively "derpy". |
