The one thing I dislike about Lyrabon is that it tends to overshadow any other characterization that might be done with these two (except for gags about Lyra wanting to be human). While I wouldn't go so far as to say Bon Bon *hates* all these things, she does seem to be somewhat shallow and negative, whereas Lyra tends to be enthusiastic and unreserved; a lot of fun could be had developing their personalities and playing them off of each other (and not necessarily following what I think has been shown in the episodes). |

AcuteAngle makes a valid point. As sweet as LyraBon is and as much as I love it, the relationship in and of itself should not completely define either characters' personalities. Although, I might call BonBon more... serious and pragmatic than shallow and negative. For the most part, what we've seen her act negatively toward so far have been public disturbances, showboating and acts that have directly hassled her or Lyra. I would say though that Lyra is by far the more emotive and "wacky" one. |

How about this:
BonBon is a confectioner of some skill who was born and raised in Manehatten, judging by her accent. Given the sheer number of skilled chocolatiers and sweet makers already thriving in that city, she decided some years ago to try and set up shop in Ponyville, where she felt she might be able to carve out a niche for herself. Being a mare from the big city who has doubtlessly had to work very hard to establish herself and her business in a new town, BonBon is a pragmatic and no-nonsense pony who reacts negatively to public disturbances and being hassled. After falling in love with Lyra some of her rougher edges have been smoothed out, although she does chaff at some of the unicorn's more bizarre eccentricities. |

Ironically, my non-shipping fanfic has gotten to the point where Bon-Bon practically hates Lyra because her human obsession is going too far.

@JasonTheHuman Yours isn't a bad approach to characterizing them, been following that little story myself and find it pretty enjoyable. This pair however is one that I don't think will ever have a single accepted interpretation, like Derpy. |
