I think it has to do with their body developping, and their wings developping later on. Look at poundcake and scootaloo wings, they're almost the same size, but one has a much larger (heavier) body. |

Also I've noticed grown pegasi fly differently than young pegasi, Scootaloo still flies and hovers using the young pegasus method
They probably have flight school to help develop the older pegasus style hence why Dash doesn't fly like Scootaloo in Cutie Mark Chronicles even though she's relatively the same age |

Maybe Pound Cake isn't the only pegasus to be raised by Earth ponies here? Scootaloo's parents may not know how to teach him to fly themselves, and can't afford to send him to flight school. |

Guys check the previous Ponibooru pages before asking questions again.
Also I wonder why people only single out Scootaloo, not say, Sweetie Belle or Twilight or Dash. The latter two were clearly shown to have learned to do magic and fly around school age. |

She also flies on cutie mark chronicles, when talking about Rainbow Dash.
She seems to specialise in forward movement, so she needs a sort of 'runway' to get started. She's able to fly, but would rather stay grounded because 1: All her friends are and 2: She favors her scooter, a ground vehicle. |

I think it works kinda like swimming does for infants. A newborn baby can swim but after a few months they lose this ability. I also like the wing growing more slowly than the rest of the body theory. |

@JohnTheSavage Actually, it still works for two reasons. One, Pound Cake is a reference to Bam-Bam from the Flintstones, so hauling Pinkie Pie around could be just a referential gag. Two, Scootaloo did pretty much a similar thing back in the Cutie Mark Chronicles via a wagon and scooter that is powered by her wings. |
