maybe Star Swirl was female and became famous as "bearded" when she once tried to disguise herself as a colt

that, or Star Swirl was male in canon despite the toy being female

Different Gen, different character. It's not that hard to understand. The Transformers fandom has been dealing with this for years now.

@Anon146:

Dude,there's a G4 Star Swirl that is in the toyline and is female.

Anyway,we can safely say that there are two Star Swirls: TV Male!Star Swirl and Toy Female!Star Swirl,so there.

Star Swirl is a very cleverly disguised pun for Harry Potter. And he is male. So it fits to logic that Star Swirl would also be a male.

And who is to say that earth pony mare Star Swirl just doesn't have the same name as Star Swirl The Bearded and they're still two different characters? Besides, I honestly feel Hasbro just pulls names out of a hat for their non-main character pony toys.
