You do realise that it was just an excuse to get "Mrs. Cake sleeps around." by the censors, right? Their coat colours aren't even close!

In the newest episode 2 earth ponies had a pegasus and a unicorn so I think any combo like this is possible.

Don't you use your fancy mathematics to describe ponies!!

I still think this is wrong, not from earth+pegasus=unicorn but from the numbers, not saying the math is wrong, just that it can go any way with the baby.

If this is how Equestrian genetics works, alicorns would be much, much more common.

They are not.

As per wikipedia "A cannon is any piece of artillery that uses gunpowder or other usually explosive-based propellents to launch a projectile"

The word is "canon" from "canonical" - part of the show's "official" record as opposed to fan theories. Pony Cakes affirms that pony types can mix-and-match, just like real genetics.

A cannon is what Pinkie has to start parties.

@Deepermadness

Granny Smith is green.

Her grandchildren are red, orange, and yellow. Her children (the Oranges) are also orange.

Check. Your move.

^She's a grandparent, not a parent. And we don't really know what colour coat her husband had, let alone what the other set of grandparents looked like.

Codomination is the word.
This way you can getoffspring with miked characteristics. Any speculations "how" is baseless at this point (no knowledge of AJ's parents)

You know Deeper I thing it was more an excuse to do the jokes with Pinkie freaking out from them flying/using magic already, but I do this that the sleeping around joke makes more sense then what Mr. Cake explained.

How did she have a unicorn and pegasus at the same time if they're supposed to be from sleeping around?

Mrs. Cake was sleeping around with both a Pegasus and a Unicorn. Pound Cake and Pumpkin Cake have different fathers.

"If this is how Equestrian genetics works, alicorns would be much, much more common. "

"This" being "the majority gene wins out"? No, if "this" was how it worked, the...majority gene would determine the "species" of pony. In this case, the majority is unicorn, therefore, unicorn.

Same goes for the coat colors. Recessive genes, you guys, it's 6th grade stuff. And as for twins being different? Hello, fraternal twins you guys!

If Mrs. Cake sleeps around, then no wonder Pound and Pumpkin's eyes and coat don't look like their parents'!

So pony genetics are like Fishman/Mermaid genetics?

Also there are no alicorns because ponies have 64 Chromosomes which is not divisible by three. I think Luna and Celestias parents were siblings, both have a defunct chromosome and got really really lucky.

So how would Alicorns work? 33+33+33+1?

This... isn't making sense to me.

Where are you getting these numbers from? How do you properly divide up the specific genome portions into those specific numbers? Why are you taking whole portions from one genome and literally nothing from another? "The numbers are arbitrary"—how can someone even take this seriously when you explicitly state that the numbers have no rhyme or reason to them?

And this still fails to explain how two earth ponies, with only one noted relative between them of a different race, can come up with two foals that are a unicorn and pegasus respectively? This chart's rating:

NOT CANON

@Gregorius

A) You're taking this way too seriously. Calm the hell down.

B) The OP was saying that the exact values of the #s were supposed to be arbitrary, because it's the ratios of the three categories that matters. In other words, Derpy could have had values of 19+29+52 and the result would have been the same.

C) The show itself just freakin' verified that having a ridiculously tiny bit of mixed ancestry is enough for two earth ponies to produce pegasus or unicorn offspring. You don't even need anywhere near as much pegasus or unicorn genes as shown here. If that's valid, then this chart is reasonable, too, regardless of the math of adding gene type %s and whatnot.

@863950: The unicorn filly we have taken and effectively turned into Dinky is canon, as seen in various episodes.
But all you're doing is stating the obvious. Of course Dinky isn't canon. Of course it is extremely unlikely that she never will be. But we are allowed to create some extra elements of the background story of one of our favourite characters, aren't we?

Even if some people don't like it...

Fanon is great because it allows for developments, and it's practically impossible to argue with unless denied by the show's creators. Dinky and Sparkler being sisters was adapted into the Derpy family, for example.

The Cakes having one unicorn and one pegasus have now confirmed that it is wholly possible, and Lauren Faust herself has not denied that such a phenomenon is impossible.

But hey, it's fanon.
Let's all hold our own views and love and tolerate those who argue against us, shall we?
