The New Lunar Republic shall be a dystopian communist police state cut off from the rest of the world while indulging in a personality cult dedicated to its founder, yet there will still be those who consider it "THE WORKING PONY'S UTOPIA, PLEASE IGNORE THE ETHNIC CLEANSING."
Also the eastern half of the country is hell on earth. |

I'm so sick of the Lunar Republic stuff.
Why can't they rule together? |

The entire concept of New Lunar Republic (even its name is retarded - either it's on the moon or it is an equestrian counterpart to Ho Chi Minh's city/Stalingrad on a national scale - basically an example of a personality cult, not that it doesn't at least partially fit Luna's character) is dead as dodo since Luna Eclipsed - it seems to have essentially established that Luna is quite conservative - as such, i don't think she would give up her royal prerogatives. |

Not sure if comment on the politics of the NLR, or on the fact that the flag is too complicated.
I'm leaning towards the latter. |

Frankly I'm baffled by the comparison. The New Lunar Republic flag only looks similar to the above flags if you squint really hard after several glasses of wine or a strong beer. (Particularly the stars.) Much of the imagery in the Lunar Republic Flag seems to be much more inspired by traditional European heraldic imagery than anything to do with Marxist states. Heck, the shield in the centre with the cross is very reminiscent of St. Andrew's Cross, the national symbol of Scotland. |

North Korea: Total isolation and a lunatic dictator with absolute power.
People's Republic of China: Very successful and promising as a developing country but no communist or even populist at this point, (the republic part was always a joke) USSR: Actually pretty cool if you exclude the uncountable skeletons in its closet (to an extent justified given it's supepower status, Stalin was a good leader for WWII but only caused harm afterwards, extended de-stalinization did help but the weak economy could not sustain a weapons' race vs NATO). Congo: Sub-saharan Africa, need say more? |

@Adam_Crocker It's not about the flags. It's about the nations tied to them. |
| Adam_Crocker #862387 6 months ago |
...well I guess I'm missing something here. What exactly ties the New Lunar Republic to those nations? (Granted no one's been very specific about what the New Lunar Republic is.) |
| NotThatAnyoneCares #862449 6 months ago |
@Adam_Crocker: Not much. The point is that countries calling themselves "republics" have a very bad track record as far as personal freedoms go, so the NLR being any better than the so-called "Celestial Empire" is very, very unlikely. |

#862449; "The point is that countries calling themselves "republics" have a very bad track record as far as personal freedoms go, so the NLR being any better than the so-called "Celestial Empire" is very, very unlikely." Considering the most prominent examples of states using the word 'Republic' in their name include the Federal Republic of Germany, the (3rd, 4rth, & 5th) French Republic, the post-Soviet Czech Republic, and the Republic of Korea (South Korea) I'm really not sure why the word "Republic" means the country is going to be a Marxist totalitarian state or a post-colonial basket-case. |

#862496; "I vote for an Anarchist Pony State." You mean an Anarchist Pony Confederation. ;-) |

^^Its not that their calling themselves republics as the idealistic attachment to the names. Its known as People's Republic of Tyranny. The more a nations sounds like an ideal utopia the more likely its a dystopian totalitarian state. |

It's kinda weird how obsessed the NLR subfandom is. |
