Been wanting to do a Spike n' Rarity drawing for a while now.
Had many ideas, but decided to keep it simple. By the way, this is totally a dream/fantasy Spike's having. |

Except they're sorta kinda canon. Rarity can wait a few years. |

Also liking the stepford wife approach you've taken with Rarity. |

Shotacon Rarity..
Spike's probably not going to grow up until all his friends are dead. |

@ 375
Disturbing and robbing the cradle much? "wait a few years" Yeah. No thanks. |

Its cause of the show's stigma that Spike's a child because of his small body while Rarity's an old lady because of her glasses.
Their ages are undefined in canon so humanizing them this way isn't really wrong but it isn't the only interpretation. I can't imagine a child that small knows how to dance with "pelvic thrusts" and woo women with facial hair. In this art, it looks like he's still in that "cooties are gross" stage. |

Humanizing the characters can get pretty complex when it comes to things like things. I try to keep the characters in scale to each other in relation to the show, so Spike ends up looking especially young. When I draw him, I imagine him to be about a tween, on the precipice of puberty but not quite there yet. He might not quite know all about sex yet, but he does know he likes girls, as he's definitely shown. As for the "Ew, girls have cooties" stage, that's entirely dependent on the boy in question. I never personally went through that stage. Besides, the only reason young boys act that way is because that's when they begin to develop confusing feelings for girls, and that's how they deal with it. But yeah, Spike's age is kinda hard to pin down in the show. One episode he has Royal duties in Canterlot, the next he's acting like a typically mischievous little boy. I tried to find the middle ground somewhere, but again, in trying to stay true to the original artwork, he ends up looking a bit young. |

Fun fact: during the Victorian period, the chase lounge (or "fainting couch") was invented in large part to make it easier to administer a "pelvic massage" to wealthy women believed to be suffering from "hysteria." A pelvic massage was a less dirty sounding way to describe what we today would call "fingering," because it was believe women came down with "hysteria" from being left unsatasfied by their husbands. The craziest part? These "massages" were usually given by other women, since midwives charged less than the male doctors! |
