when I first saw it I thought "okay, the hijab sort of works, as it's a piece of clothing used to evoce a sense of modesty and that's something Fluttershy is all about."
But at the same time, it covers up her hair and that's part of the appeal of flutters. |

it's a natural outgrowth of making a "human version" of the characters
because once you do that, you need to decide: what their racial/ethnic traits are what kind of clothes they are wearing and any choice in this category - any at all! - will have built-in connotations and implications, because any choice will be drawn from the real world and the real world is a bloody mess so I figure someone thought it'd be an interesting design for a human version of fluttershy to have an extremely "modest" dress, and had the idea to do this but: then those connotations and implications come into play, and those implications are an injustice in some people's eyes. and they speak about it, and their speech is an injustice in other peoples' eyes. hence, conflict, and good people hurting good people. and as soon as someone finds a solution that isn't seven billion oubilettes, I'd love to hear it |
