Sad as fuck? Lol, no. I thought it was emotional, just not all that sad.
Your adopted daughter growing up and moving to another country is "sad" but not, in my opinion, "sadfic" sad. If it's not emotionally devastating and outside the scope of everyday life events, I don't really consider it especially sad. Also this would be way better if Dash was given a realistic texturing makeover. This, as it is, looks too much like an HFRR? cell animation in the real world style spoof. |

That's because MLD was a Normal fic with emotion. Loss and Bittersweet and the like are mostly actually Darkfics hiding behind a "sad" tag. |

The definition of a dark fic is not that the fic is dark by the reference of the reader, but that the fic is dark by the reference of the source material.
MLD is not darker than FiM. The others are. |

It's not technically about the things that happen, it's how the universe is portrayed that makes a fic a dark fic.
For instance: The Thessalonica Legacy had humans from the Battletech universe arrive in Equestria, there was some killing and violence, but the story never portrayed Equestria in any tone other than the show canon one. On the other hand, Bittersweet, though it contained no violence, portrayed Equestria as containing much more darkness, sorrow and negativity than the norm, as well as giving the characterizations much more angst than standard grief should provoke. It also killed a member of the Elements of Harmony, tearing asunder the entire basis of the canon universe. |

Emotions are subjective. While that one is powerful and has that shade of reality (an albeit crushing reality) it didn't exactly stir up sadness in me, more a sense of melancholy. |

I agree it's subjective. I'm just going by overall most angst in reaction to a fic. The only fics that have ever emotionally disturbed me, really are rapefics. Although I tend to avoid "pure" "sad" "Grimdark" and "Shipping" fics, that's mainly because I don't want to read a story with a one trick pony premise. |

I just love sad things, and gravitate toward anything with a dark or sad premise. Maybe thats why most sad fics don't affect me, seen it all before. Loss hit me hard because Rarity's may fav, and i'm a sucker for realistic medical deaths in a sad fic. |
