Personally, I'd a make a few more drawings to get a feel for what your characters should look like, then start giving them some backgrounds, some personalities and something for everyone to associate with. Maybe do one or two comics after you've starting making consistant models for them.
I don't mean for any of that to sound spiteful, by the way. There are some good OC comics out there, such as WesternBirds' Caravel and Ahab. Most blogs that feature show characters are technically speaking OC creations, as they're portrayed out of character, or are based on the fanon personalities given to them. Hell, even JJ's Molestia blog is an OC work. Just give it your best, never be afraid to put in hard work, and remember that you'll no doubt run into arseholes again at some point.
