KWord and KWrite are text editors for the KDE Desktop on Linux. The desktop that Win Vista and Win 7 partially based their designs on.

KDE Default Programs? Are you insane?
LibreOffice is the way to go, or AbiWord if it isn't horrendously buggy in your distro.

I always save backups either online or onto a flash drive, that way even if my computer is destroyed I still have it. I guess I just take a lot of precautions now since I have had so many computers crap out on me.

I'd also go with OpenOffice. Like Libre, it's similar to Microsoft Office and is a free download.

Any program that destroys backups when it crashes is a program that needs to be destroyed it self.

Maybe, but it's best to troubleshoot what exactly is causing the crash in the first place.

LibreOffice is superior to OpenOffice, more work's been put in since the development fork.

It doesn't matter what you happen to be doing at the time: segfaults always suck.
