Fluttershy is cute.
Rarity often knows what was to be done and how. I don't like Pinkie Pie, but that doesn't matter at all. It's just a matter of personal tastes, talking about it is just a waste of time. |

I adore fluttershy but I can completely understand that some people would find her irritating, Rarity however, I think is the most 3-dimensional and fleshed out of all the ponies and I really wouldn't be able to understand why anyone would hate on her |

I like them because, despite being cute and stylish, they still have that rough edge, and that makes them versatile and multi-dimensional. It wouldn't be the same as if, let's say, Applejack and Rainbow Dash had a girly side. |

I mean the pony that's afraid of everything including her own fucking shadow. And if we're honest here, a manticore would probably eat her before she could remove that fucking thorn and the same goes for the dragon.
And as for the other one. Her tail. Big fucking whoop. It was a plot element used badly. Crossing that river would have been easy, he stopped thrashing around when they talked to him. |

Fluttershy is indeed afraid of most everything. Even so, take a look at what she's done despite being afraid. The manticore, the cockatrice, the dragon. The incident at the Gala, her resistance to Discord. Matching Rainbow's speed twice in the air, despite being a very poor flyer. What on earth could possibly give you the slightest inkling that she's weak or spineless? When need arises, she is often one of the strongest ponies on the show. She just doesn't go around showing off or picking fights. That's modesty, not weakness.
Rarity isn't egotistical (much): she has a JOB. She is ponyville's lead and perhaps only clothing designer an manufacturer. I think she deserves a bit of an ego. Her element? Generosity. Again, given her JOB, giving her friends free dresses is rather poor business, but she does it anyway. She is high-strung and dedicated to her work, so a little leeway with her behavior must be allowed. She honestly isn't any better or worse than any of the main cast. Seriously, if you want to argue this, pick better arguments than "One's a coward and the other's a selfish b****". That really just looks bad. |

Rarity put her reputation on the line for her friends. That doesn't sound like much until you realize that in her business, reputation is EVERYTHING. She effectively gave up her career and life-long dreams to support her friends--She would have lost everything if Fancypants hand't stepped up and saved her sorry ass.

After the Secret of my Excess Rarity seems a lot more sympathetic. Okey she's a golddigger but she also seems genuinely grateful and affectionate (even if not romantically) to gestures of good will instead of acting as a spoiled user and a self-hating wannabe.
Fluttershy was alway "meh" to me. Too moe and void of personality to be an interesting character IMO (even her rage moments weren't enough to counterbalance it). |

Fluttershy and Rarity are two of my favorite ponies. Why? Because I feel like they're the most fleshed out. Rarity has distinct character flaws - she's OCD and sometimes inconsiderate, but she's also very passionate, driven, and strong. Fluttershy is weak willed and quiet, but she's shown to be wonderfully nurturing and has a hidden iron will when it comes to defending her friends. Their balanced mixture of flaws and good traits make them real.
You wanna talk about flat characters? What is there to Pinkie Pie other than "laughs a lot" and "throws parties"? Don't get me wrong, I still love Pinkie Pie, but she's the flattest of the mane six. And anyway...suck it up. The characters are here to stay. The characters YOU personally dislike aren't going to go away, so you're better off if you look for the silver lining and try to find something you love about them. |
