The ponies are abstractions, exagerations of real people. They've got a decent amount of depth for cartoons aimed at children, but still far less than any actual person.
People are attracted to the rough forms that the characters represent for the same reason that they have an idealized 'dream girl'. It's just a collection of all the superimposed nice parts of an attractive person with none of the humanizing faults and flaws. Being closer to an archetype might help, I guess, but that's honestly closer to fetishism than it is to love. |
