Suppose this: Celestia created the three races, each one a partial representation of herself, showing her ultimate power.
Discord comes along some time later and does what he does best, which then leads us into the events described in "Hearth's Warming Eve." That would explain all the ponies at each other's throats and the fact they had Alicorns on their standard. Just some thoughts. |

Before Celestia was born...and they never said she created them...because if she did, what was Luna doing? Watching? Nice pic, stop reading so much into them. |

I think Celestia actually gained her powers when she and Luna found the Elements of Harmony. As far as we know, they may have started off as regular unicorns. |
