Because you have to face the real world sometime.

Don't worry. You'll understand when you are older and have +5 more friends than you do now

But the ending of one book is just an opportunity to begin another.

No joke, this question troubled me for a long time. Starting a good book was a sort of tragedy to know that they'd end, and reading each page was bittersweet to know there was one less left to read.

@Anon566 and Acute

I did have that but then I saw Baccano! It put it quite nicely, strangely enough.

A story can't end because they are enjoyable. They never start or end at precise places. We are merely taking a glimpse at the moment of people meeting, influencing one another, and parting ways and continuing.

Just imagine the rest, Twilight.

...And looking up I realized I shouldn't type while drunk. Oh well.

It happens to me not just with books but with games sometimes, too. You're all invested in this world, and then suddenly, it ends. The world is gone. Leaves kind of an empty feeling.

I hate that feeling. I really do. It's mostly the reason I don't pay attention to the story when I replay a game. Also, mostly the reason I don't read anything twice.

So that you may start another. Also, so they can write another one and string out the story into twelve longer, convoluted and ultimately unnecessary books so they may make more money and ultimately kill the franchise.

^Then they release the books again, but in 3D.
