And now you know for what Fuzzy Logic is famous for: His art!
;) |
| marioandsonic #848557 6 months ago |
I second this. It sometimes takes me almost a minute to load a page on this site.
I doubt that'd be respectable for even a 56k connection! |

and my swedish chef impersonation |

I knew, the minute I saw the thumbnail, before I even saw the pony, that the uploader was Fuzzy_Logic.
You're getting predictable. |

^
I would love to hear that xDD |

After messing with stuff the past few days, I'm pretty confident now that what's needed is more CPU power on the SQL server. I've dropped a line to that server's hosting provider to find out whether they offer high-compute plan; if not, I may have to look into a cluster-based solution.
We'll see! |

Bork bork?
Is that his mating call or something? |
| ZePassionateOne #848597 6 months ago |
^It's what the Swedish Chef used to do, Drac.
Also, c'mon guys, just have patience. It's not like you're paying for the site or something. |
| Fuzzy_Logic #848608 6 months ago |
I like to talk. :(
Weaver always draws amazing pictures and you don't call HIM predictable u_u |
| Harlequin_Jester #848618 6 months ago |
Here's the Swedish Chef partying hard. |
| cyber95 #848619 6 months ago |
i fully expect somebody to complain on the next weaver picture that we only ever see quality pictures from him and demand something different |
| Draconequus #848625 6 months ago |
Ahh. I never watched the Muppets; pardon my ignorance on the subject. |
| NightJack #848656 6 months ago |
We need Pinkie to meet the Swedish Chef ASAP! |
| Jackarunda #848669 6 months ago |
The slowness is due to the traffic. During the day I don't even browse, but like now I'm getting on to browse because it's later and the site is much faster. The only way I know how one would deal with more traffic is to get more computing power, and I'm pretty sure that costs money. |
| Eco #848671 6 months ago |
So apparently they don't actually charge separately for CPU, and were kind enough to double it themselves!
Which is cool. I'll still be in contact with them about improving things further. |
| ZePassionateOne #848675 6 months ago |
@Drac: *GASP* We need to fix that, ASAP! |
| ZePassionateOne #848678 6 months ago |
Also, Eco, i'm sure you need money for this kind of changes as Jackarunda said. Ever considered having a donation button? |
| Draconequus #848695 6 months ago |
^ Donation button? I'd pay.
And I was never a fan of the muppets to be honest. |
| Fuzzy_Logic #848745 6 months ago |
Do you see guys?! My complainy mostly-text picture sped the site up like crazy!
IT WAS ALL. ME. and you had the gall to call me predictable |
| Eco #848958 6 months ago |
Money-wise, I don't feel that great asking for handouts. I am looking at other advertising channels - nothing obnoxious, just maybe using Project Wonderful or a clone thereof on some pages instead of AdSense.
But as of December Ponibooru was pulling a slight profit. I can afford an upgrade or two. |

Eco: CPU is not your issue when it comes to the DB backend (which will be why they don't charge for it - it's rarely an issue). The issue is application design within Shimmie. You can mitigate the poor design with improvements to indexes and PostgreSQL configuration tweaking, or fix the design. Clustering will probably actually _degrade_ your performance, having looked at the Shimmie code, not improve it. You really need to either rewrite some large chunks of Shimmie or get a DBA in to sort your DB. If you're hosting on a VPS I am utterly unsurprised you're having issues - shared disk resources will be instantly a complete killer for intensive IO workloads, and Dreamhost are notorious for overselling capacity. |
