It can't really be an "alternate-mane 6" with them, or do you mean an alternate reality with them as the mane 6, as them being background ponies they can't be it as "mane" is a play on main. |

Octavia is the one that doesn't actually live in Ponyville (being an established travelling musician and having more appearances in Cantlerlot) so obviously its gonna centre on her coming to Ponyville. |

^ I figured that's what you meant, but the wording you used can't work for them if they are not put in the place of the mane 6, if it's them but the mane 6 are not in the episode it's just the same as if it focused on the CMC, the mane 6 are still the mane 6. |

They could always do a "Twenty-two Stories Around Ponyville" episode, showing the lives of the background ponies and how they keep the place running smoothly. That'd be the sort of depth in characterisation I'd love to see. |

It's Celestia's 6,000th birthday, and every town and village in Equestria plans to put on a special party as she travels from town to town. Lyra has been tasked by Twilight, the head organiser, with making sure the preparations go to plan, by checking with and meeting various other ponies in town.
She first visits her fillyfriend Bon Bon, who is helping Pinkie Pie with making sweets for the festivities. Soon after, she meets Ditzy, who's spreading party invites throughout the town. She leads Lyra to her friend Carrot Top's farm, who's having trouble getting the carrot-based foods ready. Carrot Top laments about how this happened during the Summer Sun Celebration last year, and how the Apple family pretty much saved the day with their large harvest. Lyra and Ditzy stay to help her for a while, putting Carrot Top back on schedule. Later, Lyra hears of an argument between two ponies, Octavia and Vinyl, who are supposed to be providing the music during the grand opening. When Lyra approaches the argument one of them (Vinyl Scratch) notices her lyre cutie mark, recognising her as a musician, and asks for a solution to who's playing during the ceremony. Lyra advises them to compromise, with Octavia playing the grand opening when Celestia arrives, and Vinyl providing the nightly entertainment. The preperations are complete, and the day comes; everypony cheers as they see Celestia's pegasus-driven carriage approaching from Canterlot, since Ponyville is her first town to visit. Suddenly, the carriage is struck by a bolt of magic that seemed to come from the Everfree forest. Screams from the townsfolk can be heard as they watch the carriage tumble toward the ground, the Royal Guards trying their best to keep it afloat, but to no avail. The carriage veers off-course, and lands somewhere in the Everfree forest; Celestia, Guards and all. Lyra immediately takes it upon herself to help, as she gallops to the forest's edge. Bonbon catches up with her, saying she's coming with her no matter what. Vinyl and Octavia remember the lyre-cutie-marked pony running towards the forest, so out of sheer curiousity, they follow her. Ditzy resolves to save Celestia herself, in hopes of being recognised as more than just a klutz, but Carrot Top tags along to make sure she's alright - they're friends after all. They all meet as a group for the first time on the forest's edge, all with one thing in mind; "Save the Princess, be the heroes! If only just this once!" |

Lyra, Octavia, and Vinyl would be waiting in line for some kind of musical audition. When none of them get the part, Vinyl insists they form their own group; Derpy comes in, wanting to join in with her kazoo (or accordian or something), Carrot Top following not long after to apologize, but Vinyl insists they both join. BonBon can...I guess be the band's manager? In the end, they just end up kinda sucking as far as music goes, but they stil have fun and decide they might want to hang out some more.
Okay, yeah, nothing spectacular, but it's the best I've got without reading others' comments. |

Lol, I wrote a fanfic like that, except with Doctor Whooves instead of Carrot Top. In hindsight, I probably shoulda used Carrot, but meh. It got on EqD, so I'm happeh. |
