^^ Fuck, I feel like an old fart now. And I'm only 21. Still, we were using them back in the days. |
| Anonymous #843349 6 months ago |
Hahahaha a couple of years ago I was talking with my cousin (who had 15 years old at the time) about our favorite movies:
Me : So yeah,no matter if is a trilogy, the first Back To The Future is my favorite.I still have it on Betamax Cousin: Huh,Betamax? Me: Yeah. Cousin:And what's that? Me: O_o Um...like the VHS? Cousin: ... What comes before the DVD? Cousin: VH...Oh! I get it! |
| P0ny_News #843353 6 months ago |
Holy crap. What the flying fuck is a Betamax? |
| Anonymous #843368 6 months ago |
A VHS is some kind of virus that we get if we don't use protection when we have sex...Oh wait! you almost got me there, you're talking about that music channel, right? |

^I like to consider myself as a troll, but I must fall for that one.

Betamax, it came before VHS tapes.
Just like how the CD Audio is _just_about_kinda_ dead. Cassette tapes came before CDs, and before that was about a gazillion different record formats. I loved VHS and Cassettes because it was super easy to record over them. Anypony remember getting AOL floppy disks in the mail? Just write new data over them. I remember being sad when I started getting AOL CDs in the mail instead of floppy disks "How am I supposed to write over this CD?!" ... Oya, throw some place in that nostalgia post the Laser Disc format, I think they came some time before CD-ROM. |
| P0ny_News #843413 6 months ago |
I know CDs, still using some (old games 'n' stuff), and I have a nice collection of VHS. But the betamax, honestly, it's too old. Even for me.
Damn, now I want to walk to my basement, and watch an olde movyeth on my black 'n' white oldeth televisioneth screen, I sayeth. |

@P0ny_News
That was a semi true story dude. |

@P0ny_News
Anon349 here My goodness,I'm only 23 years old xDD you're making me feel way older than that lol. I dunno I guess we couldn't afford a VHS until 1995 (or maybe we didn't particulary took interest in watching movies at home at the time) but I grew up with the Betamax.I remember watching Aladdin. |

I'm 25. When I was in elementary school, the only color computers were in the computer lab in the library.
By the time I graduated, my high school had broadband. Technology: scary fast. |
| PowerToole #843703 6 months ago |
Heck, I'm 31 and I've only seen telegrams on the Merry Melodies shorts and such.
Also, they have to present to Granny Smith something she's familiar with. That's why they sent her a telegram. Not feeling old. Not feeling old. Not feeling old. Not feeling old. Not feeling old. Not feeling old. Not feeling old. Not feeling old... |
| TheLoneLampman #843807 6 months ago |
This is your singing _________ I hope it finds you well..
It amazes me how much a lot of the stuff from the first season is overlooked. (And hey I'm 31 too. Yay?) It is sad that people know that << means rewind but have no idea why it's called that. Back in my day.. mumblegrumblemuttermutter.. |
| Anonymous #843828 6 months ago |
Oh yeah? Well when I was a kid we used Apple IIs with 5 1/4" floppy disks that were truly floppy. And they had NO HARD DRIVES!
The good news about analog technology is that as much as digital tries to stamp it out it's never going to totally go away. In the music industry for example there's still demand for recording on tape and making vinyl records due to the unique sound qualities they impart. Telegrams, though... that's another story. |

Dude, I'm old enough to remember 16mm film in classroom. How's THAT for obsolete!? |
| TheLoneLampman #843945 6 months ago |
I still have my Apple IIe with floppy drive and monitor (along with pretty much every step of 'PC' tech since: monochrome>cga>ega>vga cards + monitors,adlib>soundblaster,20mb hdd, monster double-bay 40mb, tape drives, bernoulli, 2400 baud and up modems, magnetic drawing tablet, the list goes on and on) Maybe I'm hanging onto too much stuff now that I think about it..
Tech nostalgia runneth deep. |

I know the feeling, man. It's feeling OOOOOLLLLDD. Faaaack.... |
| ZePassionateOne #843975 6 months ago |
@TheLoneLampman: I know that feel, I still have this little beast with me.
It was my first console, but I got even when the NES just started having it's boom. |
| PowerToole #844006 6 months ago |
My first console was the NES but that's only because my girlfriend lived next door and she had some kind of Atari. I don't remember which one. It had cartridges and it could run software from audio cassettes too. |
| ZePassionateOne #844019 6 months ago |
@PowerToole: Must be this one.

I really couldn't tell, but I'm pretty sure the keys were not printed on a flat panel. The cassette thing rings a major bell, though.

Uhm, have you guys ever heard of Capacitance Electronic Discs?
They were specially made records, that produced a video signal. Still have ours. Thank goodness the family has someone that can make endless parts for repairing it. PowerToole, she probably had a Tandy Radio Shack 80 (nicknamed the Trash-80) Or the Spectrum ZX80 Both used cassettes. Also so did the Commodore. Hey, I don't feel old. These little classics are still great for keyboarding and games for the family. |

Young whippersnappers..! Hahh! When I went to High School the only computer on campus was a terminal that saved your BASIC program on punched paper tape. So there. A telegram was received via telegraph at a central location in a town, printed, and hand-delivered. Being expensive, but several days faster than a normal letter, it was used for short, important messages.
Now the kids know. |
| Anonymous #844699 6 months ago |
And I remember when ponies were good. Oh look, thats now.
Enough "fuck I feel old" posts, geeze |
| TheLoneLampman #844749 6 months ago |
Considering the subject of the picture, why enough? I think you young'uns are just tired of hearing our cranky old asses reminisce about our primitive ways. |
| Anonymous #844893 6 months ago |
Come on, kids know what a telegram is. Looney Tunes has made a few jokes involving it. |
| Anonymous #844946 6 months ago |
Remember we have already seen Pinkie's singing telegram. (And glad I'm not the only old pony here.) |

You know what's funny? I grew up reading video game magazines from the PS1 era. I always remember the reviews; gamers complaining about never having enough save space on their 15 MB memory cards. I've been playing the 360 for so long that i totally forgot how much of a luxury save space was back in the day. |
| TheLoneLampman #845521 6 months ago |
Save space? How about passwords before game saves were possible? |
| ZePassionateOne #845532 6 months ago |
^Reminds me of the bloody password one had to use to transfer all your stuff from Golden Sun to the sequel...FFFFFFFFFF- |
