I really pity the writers for having to put up with us overanalyzing everything in the show.

I don't actually see Canterlot in the picture being used to find direction.

The world is round, there is no up or down.

I'm not half as disturbed about the orientation of Equestria as I am by the fact that their Sun moves across the sky in discreet "ticks".

Celestia's a freaking goddess; you'd think she could afford a Rolex.

Anon: Cloudsdale is build of freaking clouds. I expect it to drift around.

Than why is it on the masp, if it can drift around?

It makes sense she moves the sun in ticks. Otherwise, she would be busy all day moving the sun slowly.

@Benno. Well when I was there they sure tried to sell a lot of them to tourists claiming they were traditionally australian. *shrug*

*SLAPS HEAD* jeez, you dont get do you? The screenshot is the view coming from the direction of canterlot (facing south) hence why the sun seems rising from the west and sets to the east.

@Anon 544

No kidding. It seems like the knee-jerk reaction of most members of this fan community is to overanalyze the living crap out of everything, rather than look at the obvious answer that's right in front of them.

How can you use the direction of the sun as a definite here? Celestia controls the planets rotation, so it doesn't have to go east to west.

Nope.

Well, that Compass Rose deosn't have any letters, and it's a pretty stylized map; more an art peice than the work of a cartographer, so I'd dismiss it on the grounds that it wasn't meant to have any kind of accurate projection.
