Wait waaa? Valentine's Day EP? That said, chances are: No. Hasbro may NOT make the episdes, per se, but it's still their show, and Hasbro is a business. I doubt they'll avoid anything that would rile up the "moral guardians" much. |

FuzzyFenrir, there ARE Valentines Episodes of cartoons, you know. Like Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy for example. There are more male kids than female kids in that show. Because only Nazz and the Kanker Sisters were the only females in that episode it, Ed got paired with a Sandwich, and Eddy with Plank.
Even with a LARGE gender ratio difference, the makers of the show could still make it work, even if they need to resort to "joke pairings". Like Rarity with Tom/Dan the rock. Twilight with a book. Pinkie Pie with a Cake, ect. They MAY have actual pairings like Derpy Hooves/Doctor Whooves though. |

Um...they've had a Halloween (NightMare Night) and Christmas (Hearth's Warming Eve) episode this year so far. They're just trying to hit all the holiday episodes this season. And who says it's going to ship ALL the characters. I'm hoping they continue with the Spike/Rarity or Snips/Applebloom stuff they've built or hinted at. Or hell, this might even make FlutterMac cannon |

So first off, yeah, the heteronormative angle is a looming spectre. But unless all the main cast get paired off, you don't really have a problem, or at least there's no more of a problem than usual. And if all the main cast do get paired off, you have a bigger problem, one much harder for Hasbro's public image tiptoeing to deny.
Which is: the expectation that girls have to have a boy. That single women who want to be single are doing it wrong. I don't think, from what she's written about e.g. tomboyishness, that Lauren would want to send that message. I don't think, from what she and Jayson have said about the production team, that the production team would want to send that message. And I don't think that it's something upon which the corporate mothership would insist, given that its most likely effect would be to cause negative press, for no clear benefit. So, yeah. I'm cautiously optimistic. I guess we'll see. |
