For 10,000 years, the galaxy-spanning Imperium of Mankind has endured, surviving disasters, heresies and invasions from alien races intent on the extinction of humanity. The largest empire ever known, the Imperium spans the galaxy, boasting a million worlds and billions of soldiers sworn to its cause. In contrast the Space Marines are few in number, it is said that there is not even so many as a single Space Marine for each planet in the Imperium and yet they are humanity's greatest champions. Angels of Death, the Space Marines strike fear into the hearts of the Emperor's foes. |

Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods. |
