Wow after I uploaded that picture of his family last night I didn't think people would still care about this guy. I was wrong apparently.

Would it really hurt to respect the guy's wishes and leave him alone? It's not against the law to be nice.

^ He's not being nice to homosexuals, so why would anyone else be nice to him?

As for Creative Commons. It's the stuff you see on wikipedia. It means you allow others to so some stuff. (For example copying, with giving credits or rework) your stuff but not make money with it.

However legally it's not an alternative to the real copyrights.

From what I understand there are four kinds of creative commons licence:
Non Derivative (cannot alter original work)
By (must give credit)
Share Alike (must release new work under same licence)
Non Commercial (must not make profit from original work)
However that's pretty much useless if we don't know what kind of creative commons licence Hasbro has on MLP, if any.

For those of you that don't understand Roboshi's big words, here's copyright in a nutshell:

Is some-one else? You cannot make money from it without their permission legally.

Is something yours but based on some-one else's work? Same story.

Is something 100% yours? Make all the money you want.

Wow. That is all I can say.

People, copyright is an AUTOMATIC right. This 'Roboshi' is talking absolute bullshit, there are no fees or formal registration needed.

Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berne_Convention_for_the_Protection_of_Literary_and_Artistic_Works for more details.

To be clearing this, Roboshi don't mean Copyright. Copyright is a right of the own work that allow you as owner of this work to use this work in any form. Contain your work a person or thing that is unique and is made in another work from another person than you are legally allowed to use this work to in any form, mostly to put this down when you don't want that this work exist. You have this right automatic, you create it, you have the copyright of it.

What Roboshi mean is the patent of something, or the trademark. In both case you pay for your copyright, so it is absolutely your own thing. Every person who want to make something with your work must ask you or more likely pay you for the use of this.

My little Pony is a Trademark by Hasbro the Copyright belongs to Hasbro AND Bonnie Zacherle. He will be always has the Copyright (Copyright is for lifetime), but with the Trademark and Patent by Hasbro, Bonnie has not really something to say about MLP anymore.

What exactly is going on? More accurately, what triggered this thread? I understand that there is discussion on copyright infringement but what happened to inspire it?

AFAIK, copyright "(R)" is automatic and free. Now, if you also want a trademark "TM", then you have to pay for it. They are two different things.

I always enjoy reading the comments for images revolving around wesdaaman.

Someone should point out to him that someone with bad eyesight could misread his name as swearing. lol.

Roboshi is wrong, wrong, wrong about copyright. Copyright is automatic when you create a work. Trademarks and Patents must be filed/registered and paid for. Whether something is too derivative to be protected by copyright is one of those things that expensive lawyers get hired to argue about.

my comment on creative commons was an overall comment on how he thinks you have to apply for copyright. As others have said, that's absolute, utter, complete, violently wrong bullshit.

Yeah the confusion of Trademark and copyright is my bad there.
