You either use vectors like some people, don't use images, or try your terrible hand at drawing anyways. All have been tried, and there's no guarantee of success/popularity either way.

There is one that uses paper cutout ponies. Do something like that, but it's success will depend on your originality. I suggest legos.

Comic sans is not just a font. It is the plague of the earth, people die every time it is posted and it personally raped and murdered my family.

Comic Sans makes me want to kill a baby pony because it makes me rage. I don't know why.

And to answer OP's question, Not really. If you can't draw then try, doing the tumblr might actually help you learn. Shit, I know a kid who uses a ruler to draw ponies and they look blocky as fuck. Didn't stop him from doing a tumblr.
